@Shape01:
Thanks for that, the Saitek driver works perfectly... WITH FORCE FEEDBACK!
To get it, install the Saitek driver as said previously:
- edit the .inf file, replace ;%USB_NAME%= SAI_USB_Inst, USB\VID_06A3&PID_FF04 with %USB_NAME%= SAI_USB_Inst, USB\VID_046D&PID_C291&REV_0100
- Plug the wheel and tell Windows to use the Saitek driver.
- now what I did to get the FFB working is: I launched the regedit, looked for VID_06A3&PID_FF04 and renamed these two directories into VID_046D&PID_C291 (I first had to delete an old VID_046D&PID_C291 for the second occurence).
- I suspect the later can be done in a simpler way by just replacing all the remaining occurences of VID_06A3&PID_FF04 with VID_046D&PID_C291
Now I have no reason to replace my wheel, great finding!

I also am interested in this. If this is the case with the Wingman Formula Force, then the Not a True HID talk is pretty much bunk.
Overall the Force Feedback in the Wingman Force is still hard to beat even with the G940's since it is still cable driven vs gear driven. My Wingman Force still works to this day and I still want to use it in a 64Bit OS.
I think I will see if I can tinker with other force feedback drivers and see if I can get any sort of breakthrough similar to the Saitek fix used here, but I can make no promises.
I have to wonder if the Saitek R440 driver would work for the joystick, but of course the Force Feedback may be broken since the wheel only needs/uses Force on 1 axis where the joystick would need 2. :/

The protocol honestly isn't HID--Logitech isn't lying to us about that. You can take a look at Linux's iForce driver to verify. (It's just a shame that you can't just port a linux driver to Windows.)
That said, Saitek has shown us that it's definitely possible to make an iForce protocol based driver on 64bit windows, so it's certainly not the herculean struggle that Logitech has been telling us.

I need the drivers for Logitech Wingman Formula Force (red wheel) with a serial connection to use on Windows 98. The program I want to use it with is Nascar 2000. I had Windows ME, but the Logitech drivers for ME don't work with a serial connection. I installed WIN 98 but can't find drivers for that either. Sure would appreciate help with this.

Now that I downloaded the file (lgs460enu.exe) do I run that file? And if so, then what do I do.

Hi, as there's still a small activity here in 2012...
I made the installation of the Logitech Wingman Formula Force (not the GP version!!!) a bit easier for Win7 x64.
- Download the Saitek R440 driver ftp://ftp.saitek.com/pub/software/full/Saitek_R440
- Unpack it
- Replace Saitek_R440_Force_Wheel_SD6_64\FF04\SaiFF0
- Plug your wheel, tell Windows to use the driver in this FF04 directory, install, enjoy the force feedback ![]()

Hi Sly_North,
Thank you very much for your work here! I was able to see my wingman formula Force in the devices-section. Didn't try it yet, however.
Just a remark for other hardware-dummies like me: You have to search the unpacked files from Saitek's installer in order to replace the *.inf-file. The easiest way is to install twice, it will then ask whether to overwrite the files. In my case, the installer was unpacked in C:\windows\Temp\Saitek.
While installing the driver manually, you have to also point to this directory.
Thanks again for saving my precious hardware into the win7_X64-future,
flankerrider

Hi Sly_North,
I'm running on Win 7 64 bit with my Wingman formula force (red steering wheel).
I've installed the modified Saitek R440 driver per your instruction.
The top 2 green light on my Wingman formula force is lighted.
How do i calibrate the steering wheel?...I tried using lgs502_x64 & 510_x64...both cannot detect my steering wheel.
appreciate your advice on the steps to install the driver... thanks in advance.
