Possible G25/G27 Fix

Hello. I was thinking about buying a G27 but after coming across a video on youtube showing somebody with a clunking problem with the steering wheel I started to wonder if they were reliable. Within minutes I had discovered so many videos from different users showing similar problems so I decided to search Google about other G27 faults/problems.

I then came across these threads from the Logitech forum:

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PLAYSTATION-3-READ-ONLY-ARCHIVE/G27-Problem/m-p/398652

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/PLAYSTATION-3-READ-ONLY-ARCHIVE/G27-HORRIBLE-PRODUCT/m-p/408382

The above threads are different issues to what I have come across but it shows me that there are a lot more problems with the G27.

Now for you guys with the steering wheel issue in the above links I have come across the following thread on http://www.racesimcentral.com forum that may help. This proves that the Logitech G27 has some major problems. It contains a possible fix providing you can find the parts and have the knowledge or use it to back up your claim against Logitech to get your G27 fixed free of charge, a replacement or a full refund if your G27 is still under warranty.

http://www.racesimcentral.com/forum/showthread.php?6032-Logitech-G25-G27-Main-Board

I don't have a problem with Logitech in general but as it seems they are treating their loyal customers the same way as many companies these days, i.e.. direct the blame at the customer and not take any responsibility for the faults themselves.

I must say I was going to buy the Logitech Z5500 5.1 surround system and the G27 but due to issues with both I will now be taking my custom elsewhere.

As far as I am aware there is no fault with the Z5500, just the way it is wired puts me off. I have been told by Logitech it is wired exactly the same way as the X540 5.1 surround system which means I have zero control over the centre, sub channels.

What this means is they are wired in such a way that you cannot adjust the EQ on either the centre or bass channels independently without causing the centre speaker to distort and sound muffled because of increased bass and a reduction of mid to high frequencies or by increasing mid/high frequencies on the centre channel and causing the bass channel to sound horrible and muffled.

Regarding warranties in general:

I do believe that if a very widespread problem/fault with a specific product has come from the manufacturing process itself and is NOT the customers fault, then regardless of whether any warranty remains on the product or not the product should still be fixed or replaced under the existing warranty that was in place when the product was sold.

I say this due to my girlfriends experiences with a certain car manufacturer where they try to drag out fixing any faults etc until the warranty is up and then open their hands for cash from you the customer to repair/replace the faulty product.

This leaves you with more expense on a product that should have been 100% perfect from start to the stated end of life date and more money in the manufacturers pocket. These days all manufacturers of any product should have to state an end of life date, just like food manufacturers have to. This is because of the poor quality of electrical and mechanical goods sold in their thousands which are not costing you your small change down the back of our sofa but sometimes a huge chunk of your yearly income.

All the expense adds up over time for both you the customer (if you have to pay for repairs) and the product manufacturer (if they have to pay for repairs).

There is an easy way around this though where everybody saves money. The manufacturers need to tighten their quality control and not release any products until they have been extensively tested so they can last at least till the date they state as the end of life date.

Please feel free to comment.

Thank you for reading and I hope this helps.

Re: Possible G25/G27 Fix

I've been playing racing sims for years, no product is 100% perfect, the G27 is probably the least problematic racing wheel out there, and most bulletproof one on the market even with all of those problems (which seem rare since this is the most popular wheel out there, must be thousands and thousands of them). As well Logitech Customer support is next to none in the PC peripheral market .

I also frequent racesimcentral, and I can assure you if you ask the best wheel you can get for under $400, 9/10 people are going to say G27 no contest. Or even ask the guys at insidesimracing (a sim racing TV show), they own and have reviewed every single piece of sim racing equipment you can possibly get.

A shame you feel that way, but whatever makes you feel good.

Re: Possible G25/G27 Fix

I never said the G27 was bad, just I am rather disappointed that's all. From what I see around the internet a huge amount of people are having big problems related to the G27 and from what I have seen on this forum some people are being left with a broken G27 and a chunk of wasted money. Now I'm not going to take that risk myself as I want to see from a company that sells goods that seem to be faulty well within their warranty period to the general public actually take some kind of action that results in a product being delivered to the customer minus any faults. Also I wouldn't take the risk as the country I am in doesn't have a Logitech office etc so it would cost me huge amounts to return a faulty product and I just cannot afford that.

I wouldn't release a product from my own company unless I knew it was going to work 100% for whatever period it's meant to last. Now I understand the G25/G27 will only last a limited time as with any electrical/mechanical product in the world but for them to be faulty straight out the box new or within a few hours, days or even months, I think it's not on.

This is not just Logitech though it's many companies these days, as I said previously, my Girlfriend has had a real bad time with a certain car manufacturer and has basically got a €21000 car that she cannot sell due to the very publicly known faults with the engine and electronics amongst other things. She bought that brand new in 2007 with 2 years manufacturers Warranty and a free additional 3 years warranty from the main dealer.

I want the G25 as it has been out a while now and any issues it may of had in the past would of been sorted one way or the other but it is near impossible to find anywhere that sells a G25 new due to the release of the G27, plus I really like the sequential gearing option that is now redundant.

I won't be purchasing another wheel from any other company as nobody comes close to the G25/27 standard but instead stick to my trusty old "Logitech" Dual Action controller that I have only had 1 minor issue when I first bought it but got resolved with Logitech Profiler.

Also must mention I am remaining a customer of Logitech as after Christmas I will be buying the G19, G13 and G9x and cannot wait. :smileyhappy:

Re: Possible G25/G27 Fix

[ Edited ]

Hello,  I am new to this forum, and a G27.  But at the same time, not new to the internet, and forums.

I was very scared AFTER I purchased a G27.  It's still new in the box(saving for christmas).  So I really can't give personal experience.

But from what I have known about the internet and forums, most of the time, people post more bad things than good.  I imagine the G27 has its issues, as I have read also(and scared the (word filter evasion) out of me).  But then I realized, how many times does someone come into a forum, and just say, "Hey, all is well with my xxxx product".  Not often.  Plus, if there is an issue with it, send it back.  I have heard stories of logitech telling the customers to keep the faulty product, and they send out a new one.  So know you have a extra wheel for parts(if needed).

I have to also did the logitech vs. fanatec debate in my mind while researching.  But for the price, which was lower than retail directly from logitech with a sale, I had to go with it (G27).  But in the end, like some have mentioned before, nothing is 100% fool proof.   Every manufacturer has flaws.  But its good to know you got a good customer service you can call and get it replaced or fixed.

Hope this helps.
