So, I have been thinking to buy the G27 Racing Wheel, mostly because of the H-Shifter and clutch pedal. Currently I have Driving Force GT and have been very pleased about it.
So the few big questions for me are:
1) Is there an option in profiler to assign the shifter for keyboard commands?
I ask this because for DFGT there hasn't been and in some older games I have had to use paddle shifter, which I am NOT a fan of. This might no be a problem for most of us but for me playing older games too (NFSU, NFSU2 etc. losing the sequential shifter would be a big loss.) I know there is no hardware based sequential on G27 but maybe the rubberband trick would work for me... And as far as I know, not all the new games support H-Shifer also.
2) Is the G27 really worth the money?
I ask this because I am not that rich... Wouldn't go bankrupt though, but still would hurt a bit. Some new games take the advantage of H-Shifter and Clutch and as a "real car fanatic" getting all the available realism is somewhat important for me. BUT is the G27 really that much better in terms of useability and features, and is it how easy to use? I mean is it more plug-and-play or plug-and-pray type of controller? And does the clutch really give much addition to gaming experience? Any experiences in games like NFS: Carbon, GRID or Dirt, for example?
Sorry, if these have been asked before but I HAVE googled for answers, alot..
And thanks in advance for any answer!

Hey there,
Im not too certain on the Profiler question, however to spread some light on the other... I believe it is worth it depending on what you plan to use it for. I found that most games have the ability to use the H-Shifter, from atleast the past 2 years. I had to set up the wheel a little bit (wheel weight, degrees of rotation, spring strengh etc) but after that it performed flawless. I play both NFS Shift 2 and the Dirt series. The more realisitic driving games, the more requirement for tweeking the settings. Dirt I just plugged and played and felt great. Shift 2 on the other hand, I had to take more time with the said settings. Have a look at some other wheels online for cheaper, I heard Fanatec had some good wheels.
Overall, I would recommend. Most games have default profiles for the G27 so there is not much need to change. However you do have the option too. Its up to you on how you want your wheel to perform..
Hopefully this was helpful to ya. All the best,

Do not bother if you are planning on installing the Windows 8 consumer preview anytime soon.

Thanks for the anwers!
Probably won't be changing to Windows 8 very soon, for actually I'm going to get my new PC in a few days and I'm already terrified about getting Windows 7 installed and leaving behind the good old XP! Well, it's still gonna be dual-boot...
And basicly using Profiler is not a big problem for me. Sometimes I've spent hours setting up my DFGT to work the way I wish and customizing options to get it perform "right", and that almost never bothered me. And that goes for every single game independently!
But surely someone could check for example what happens when in the main view of Profiler you put on for example GEAR 3? Does it let you assign a specific command on it or not? Ofcourse in need of Stick-style sequential I can always dig back up my DFGT for older games but if it just was possible with G27 too.
But it's good to know that the H-shifter and clutch are so widely supported nowadays! Probably I'm gonna go for it sometime soon!
