Finally, after many requests here is a profile to use your logitech gamepad as a mouse in Windows. I have mapped the important functions people generally need. The D-pad is mapped for play/pause, stop, play next & play previous that works in Windows Media Player and Media Center.
You can also open the Task Manager, start menu, cut copy paste things, its all there. There are two profiles; Vista and XP. Both are included with instructions.
I spent about 6 hours looking for comfortable way to type using gamepad (like T9 text prediction that we use in our cell phones) but didnt come across anything reliable. You will do fine using On-Screen Keyboard in windows. Download the profiles here:
Profiles work for any logitech gamepad

Hey OrazRO, thanks have tried out that profile, and it seems to be working.
I've just got a problem with the mouse movement. The mouse pointer keeps moving down to the bottom...which makes it pretty hard to work with. Do you have any idea what could couse this?
thanks

Hey ShaolinWood... wait I just reuploaded the files. Download the new ones. I included pictures with them. Should help u remember whats what.
And about the mouse moving down, nothing to do with the profile...its just a common issue with pc gamepads. What I do is just vigorously move the stick in circles 2-3 times and it gets fixed. Try that. Let me know if that doesnt work.

I followed the link for the profile to use the gamepad as a mouse that I received from Logitech support but I don't see the download anywhere.
Can some please post the link.

The download is already there... Click on "For XP" or "For Vista" the download should start right away.
