older versions of driver automatically saw my gamepad and worked great, but in this game, it doesn't recognize it...is this something along the lines of needing to d/l new drivers for my gamepad, or is it the game?

Extract the files :

dinput8.dll
xbox360cemu.ini
xinput1_3.dll
xinput9_1_0.dll

Copy them into the installation directory of the game... And all should be fine...
