gamepads for unifying receiver?

do any of logitech's gamepads work with the unifying receiver? and if not why isn't there one? to me it makes sense that logitech should consider a gamepad for the unifying receiver to be a good idea and a smart move

Re: gamepads for unifying receiver?

I've been wondering why they don't have gamepads, headsets, joysticks, and all kinds of devices for the unifying device.  It's a wonderful idea they came up with but they seem to be completely dropping the ball.  Why have a receiver that can handle 6 devices then only make 3 devices that use it?  I only need one keyboard and one mouse.  The keypad they have for it is a POS.   Personally, I'd buy every device they come out with for it.  Assuming, of course, that the devices are high end.  G13 gamepad, G930 headset, that sort of thing.  I'd even replace my beloved Saitech X52 Pro joystick/throttle with a high-end Logitech one if they'd just freaking develope one.

There's no unifying for gaming products at the minute. The reason could be that game devices requires "clear, fast and undisturbed" connection/data transmit in every smallest sequence of time when you play the game. That's way most popular gaming devices are ether wired or made to work with separated receivers.

If you had two or more gaming devices connected to one receiver some datas would be processes a bit later for example 000.10 sec :smileyhappy: but it might affect the result of your game ...  there is more other details ... regarding USB ports and quality of motherboards, core's speed etc... too complicated to explain in a few words...

btw type in google:

Wireless vs wired controller

I dont buy that, look at the PS3 console with its bluetooth which can use atleast 2 controllers maybe more alone with a keyboard and mouse all bluetooth which isnt as reliable as the unifying tech,

xbox360 console and the receiver for windows tech, it can use up to 4 controllers and a wireless headset at the same time also not as reliable as the unifying tech,

somehow if those can do that without issues I have to believe the unifying receiver can use a keyboard, mouse(or trackball) and a game controller at the same time reliably

Yes, you are right but first of all you need to know sth about what is difference between bluetoothand WIFI wireless connection.

http://www.diffen.com/difference/Bluetooth_vs_Wifi

As you can notice the Wifi is more complex and requires better system config. etc...

Also remember that a computer is not a console game but more complex device and may control at the same time a wireless mouse, keyboard and several other devices for example bluetooth too. The more complex configuration of the device the harder to control it and easier to get some kind of confilcts.

Most of computers out there won't even be able to control multiple devices . Every third computer in this world will stuck on controling multiply USB devices, not matter if it is wireless connection or not. Most of mother-boards, processors won't be able to handle it...what more in many situation your OS will show you funny messeges :smileyhappy:

Of course there are super machines for thousand dollars which won't face this kind of problems but not everybody is able to aford this. Devices are made for every kind of  machines (low performance and high performance) and it is not so easy to design a device that will run easly on all of them. There always will be complaints . Comparing PS3 or XBOX to computer then is not really good example.

Conclusion - Computer system and its devices is more complicated structure than a console game.

Console game is made, as the name says, mainly for games - all hardware spec. is confiugred and optimize for games only. If you have some application like interent etc they are very simple and you can not compare them to what computer offfers to the user, however they may meet your expectations. Computer system is desinged to perform multiply and more complicated actions. Advanced graphic. music program, games etc etc... look ...there is no a console game better than computer so far ? do you get it now ? One of my computer 4-years old man is so far better than PS3 and XBOX together.

I would say - It is like comparing Pegasus to PS3 or XBOX . I never had so many problems with my ATARI 800 XL in the past like I'm having with my modern PC now.

Re: gamepads for unifying receiver?

Unifying is not wifi, it is modified and improved bluetooth, and it isnt so complex that it cant have up to 6 keyboards and mice so there is no reason it couldnt take out a keyboard and put in a gamepad

and some gamers do use keyboards on a unifying wireless receiver quite effectively

Re: gamepads for unifying receiver?

It's not all about gaming either.  I travel...a lot.  I carry a high performanace laptop on my trips.  I watch movies on the plane, I use it for work and light gaming in the hotel room.  Have you ever seen the tiny little computer tables provided in most hotel rooms?  Stuffing a mass of USB wires into a laptop is wicked messy on those little tables.  I travel with a keyboard and mouse on the unifying device, an external hard drive (wired), a joystick/throttle (wired) for flight simming, and a wireless headset (with its own receiver).  That takes up 4 USB ports...my laptop has three so I also have to carry a travel-sized USB hub, which means more wires.  Wouldn't it be nice if I had a wireless joystick and headset that didn't need their own receivers?

I also have a few high-dollar gaming systems at home.  I've never had an issue with lag on wireless devices.

Regardless of what people use them for, they state very prominently on the box that the unifying device can handle 6 devices...but they only make 3 types of device for it (Keyboard, Mouse, and Numeric Keypad).  I don't see any indication from Logitech that other devices are in the works.  It appears that they are simply abandoning the unifying device.

I'd like to hear from Logitech if they are planning more devices or if I am correct in assuming that they are discontinuing the whole idea.

Kevin

P.S.  I've been programming operating systems and device drivers since 1978, "complicated" is not an excuse.

I don't think they plan to discontinue/abandon unifying, they are still making new mice and keyboards for it, I am hoping they will change their minds and add gamepads as well, not to mention they have some nice Harmony remotes that I would love to see have unifying capability

Me either. I don't think Logitech wants to stop making Unifying devices. Look how many new product came out recently in their offer. I would say most of new Logitech devices in Unifying .
