Cordless Action Controller to PC via Adapter

I just got an adapter to use ps2 controllers on PC. My wired controller works just fine with it. But when I plug in my Cordless action controller, it doesn't work. The light on the reciever keeps blinking, like it can't detect the controller, and the light on the controller is off. I know the controller works and that the batteries are good. The wierd thing is that when I go to the controller properties on my PC, the only thing that works is the vibration. I can test the vibration and it works fine. But none of the buttons or directions register. Any ideas?

Same here - my PS2-to-USB adapter works fine with all my wired controllers, as well as with my other wireless one (not from logitech). But the cordless action controller can't establish a connection and the receiver just keeps blinking. The controller works fine on both my slim and fat PS2 so there is probably no problem with it.

The gamepad itself appears to think it's connected, though - when I press a button after plugging in the receiver in the USB adapter, the gamepad's LED blinks once and then goes off. The receiver's keep blinking. But when I unplug the receiver from the adapter, the gamepad starts blinking again, as if it's lost the connection.

So any ideas how to get it to work? I was hoping to buy a second cordless action and use the one with my PC and the other with my PS2, without swapping the receiver back and forth all the time.

I have the same problem as you with only rumble functionality and nothing else.  Hope someone has an answer on this board.

Try attaching your usb adaptor to a powered usb hub. This solved the issue with my controller, I am assuming the motherboard won't supply enough power to port for the wireless linkup to operate properly.

That isn't the problem because everything else I plug into my PC's USB ports works 100% including my Logitech Xbox Cordless Contollers via USB adapter.  All I know to do is try a different adapter because I've tried 10 different drivers with this one.

Turns out my mobo isn't powering several different types of USB 2.0 devices.  I'll try the hub idea, thanks for the heads up on that one, Tricent.

The logitech cordless action controllers need EXACTLY 3.3v to work correctly. The middle pin (pin 5) needs to be at 3.3v.

Many of the USB to Playstation adapters have to higher voltages on this pin. (It's commonly tied to the USB 5V) This explains why some usb ports/hubs will work and others will not. If you have some electronics experience, you can install a 3.3v voltage regulator to output to this pin. Playstation controller pinouts, and schematics are available, just google "playstation controller pinout".

Please believe me on this one. I've had this same problem and have successfully modded my adapers to make these controllers work.

Re: Cordless Action Controller to PC via Adapter

Thanks ihateregisering!

Although I didn't install a regulator, what you said did help me figure it out. You see I had used a powered USB hub before, and it didn't work. But after you explained that normal USB ports give too much power, I tried something different. I plugged it into the hub, but I left the hub unpowered. Worked like a charm.

For anyone else out there who wants to know, I have this hub:

http://www.amazon.com/Cables-Go-Port-USB-2-0/dp/B000IZDN60

There is a power cord that comes with it that is optional (I guess you only need it when you have lots of things plugged into it). Just plug your controller into it, but don't plug in the power supply. Worked for me.
