Presenter and Linux

In case anyone is interested, my new Presenter R800 (extended range and green laser) works just fine under Ubuntu 10.04 with OpenOffice Presentation.  All buttons seem functional (Presentation, Blank Screen, Slide Forward/Reverse all tested with a basic presentation).  No special configuration or drivers needed, just plug and play.

On a related note, so far I like the presenter.  The guy who thought to put the USB dongle in the remote for storage needs to be knighted.  The size feels good in my hand (although as an occasional user I would trade comfort for a more compact unit, it's fairly large in the laptop bag compared to what it could be with a VX-style dongle and lose the LED screen).  About the only thing I would prefer is an internal battery that can be charged via USB instead of replaceable AAAs.

Re: Presenter and Linux

As another datapoint, my Ubuntu 8.04 corporate image is also plug-n-play.

However, I'm questioning whether it would have been better to get an MX Air which would allow me to use the mouse cursor instead of the cool green laser pointer (better for remote presentations but I may need to work on configuring buttons).  The benefit of the Presenter is that it also makes an excellent cat toy.  Obviously the best solution is one of each :smileyhappy:
