Echo

Also I have problems with people complaining they hear themselves.

When I use my Communicate STX webcam microphone that has the same Rightsound technology I have the same problem.

Other users I know of, using similar webcam have no echo when I speak to them (I don't hear myself).

After switching between webcam mic and Quickcall mic usually the echo goes away. Do I need a setting on my PC? (WinXPhome, Pentium4 3.2Ghz) The Echo cancellation and smart AEC is switched on.

Do you have your speakers placed very close to your camera? Let us know.

Re: Echo

My speakers (Quickcall) is, as advised in the manual, on my desk beside my keyboard, maybe 50 cm from the camera. With Skype sometimes the echo cancellation works fine, but sometimes it is not working at all. And it does not matter whether I use the Cam mic or the Quickcall mic.

The Quickcall has it speakers/mic combined, so no positioning there, besides the fact that it stands on all sides free, so no echo's from books/monitor nearby the Quickcall.

I tried switching between these two mics, restarting the computer, but could not find anything that I could reproduce to get it working.

Now I am trying it with Flash player in a video conference. It does not work at all with Flash, but the Flash application (through web) does also not trigger the webcam toolbar, as skype does. Can it be that the flash player does not work with the quickcall echo cancellation?

My temporary solution is to use the webcam mic and put the quickcall on the ground, now I can use it fairly good without echo. But for general use in our company, that won't do.

Re: Echo

Instead of using the speakers, can you try using a pair of headphones instead? Let me know if you still experience the echo.

Re: Echo

Goofboon, as you can already guess, you experience the echo simply because the microphone picks up the sound from your speakers. Your best option would be to reduce the volume of your microphone and also place your speakers as far as possible from your microphone. Alternatively, you may also use your headphones instead.

Re: Echo

Mona, I can reduce the mic level, but that does not help. About the distance between mic and speakers:
As you offcourse know, the USB QuickCall speakerphone has the mic and speakers combined

So how can I place the speakers away from the microphone?
I have looked on all sites, but saw no way of enlarging the distance. It is also not clear where the mic exactly is.

Do I understand that you advise me to open this QuickCall device and remove the mic to put it on bigger distance?

Re: Echo

Hi Goofboon,

Please do not open up the device. This will void your warranty. Do you have a pair of headphones that you can use? Instead of using the speakers that come with the QuickCall device, you can try using a pair of headphones instead. However, you will have to set the default sound playback device to your headphones. Let me know how this suggestion works for you.

Re: Echo

Hi Mona,

I understand that it will work when I use a headphone, but why whould I need the Quickcall in that case?

To make sure we are talking about the same device, here is a link to the QuickCall
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=103,CONTENTID=12268
You can read there: "Enjoy natural conversations—handsfree and headset-free with the QuickCall™ speakerphone"

So I should be able to use it without headset.
So what can I do to get rid of this echo?
