Re: Harmony Software on OSX Lion (64-bit)

I attempted the resolution you suggested on the date of my post and again on the phone with technical support as noted in my original post.  It did not work.  i am certain the directions were correctly followed as they were done in cooperation with tech support.

You reference "older models" of remotes as the source of the problem.  I was attempting to upgrade a 1000 to an 1100.  Are you suggesting that the 1100 is an older model?  My goal was to be able to copy my activities programmed and saved from the 1000 to the 1100.  Per your site, I can only copy activities to the 1100 from the 1000.  The other models would not acheive the goal.

Also, i was told to contact Logitech home office to gain more informaiton regarding a timeline for repairing the compatibility problem.  I called over a week ago, left a message and to date have not yet received a return call.

For the last 20 quarters, Apple computer sales have grown faster than PC sales. Mac shipments grew by 27.7% while the PC market shrank by 1.2%.  The urgency for a compatible remote is apparent to the consumer.

Your response is appreciated but it did not address the issue.  Why is non-compatibility not clearly posted to the Logitech website? When consumers take the responsibility for making purchasing decisions they rely upon the vendor to be straightforward with information.  That has not been my experience.

Re: Harmony Software on OSX Lion (64-bit)

This is pretty clearly deceptive advertising for a very expensive consumer electronics device.  I am pretty sure the FTC would be interested ...

[ Edited ]

YOU DON"T HAVE TO SWITCH MAC OS X FROM 64 to 32...

I see that the fix I suggested worked for at least 1 user, so please try running the Apple Java Upgrade if you're still having troubles, go here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1421

and run the update from Apple.

Then go to Applications>Utilities>Java Preferences  and ensure that:
-1 Entry for  JAVA SE 6 1.6.0_29-b11-402 under 64 bit CPU Type

-1 Entry for JAVA SE 6 1.6.0_29-b11-402 under 32 bit CPU Type

You should just be able to run the Harmony Software now, it should pickup the new (correct) Java runtime automatically. If it doesn't, uninstall/reinstall the Harmony Software after the Java update.

Please try it and post back here your results.

My sympathies to Logitech on this one, my teams used to deal with this years ago at my old company, Java Run Time issues can be heinous to diagnose, Java is 3rd party (Oracle)...so you've got Logitech using Oracle (formerly Sun) JDK to build application that runs on Mac OS X....so problems can be a nightmare booted between 3 companies (you fix it...no, you fix it...etc etc). The golden rule was always run the latest officially supported Java Runtime for any given OS.

Good luck.

And "Give Me Kudos" if it works so we can track how many it helped.

Re: Harmony Software on OSX Lion (64-bit)

Agreed. while it is possible to force the Mac to boot in 32-bit, it certainly isn't convenient to have to switch back and forth just for the sake of running a single application. Come on, Logitech - surely it won't erode profit to the point of pain to enhance this software to run on the 64-bit Mac OS X platform. Please!

Re: Harmony Software on OSX Lion (64-bit)

Booting in 32-bit mode does not fix the problem.

I already had the latest Java, though I did rearrange the order to make the 32-bit JVM first and it seems to be working today, but I don't know if the JVM settings were the reason or if they just got their website working correctly.  Anyway, this morning I was able to update my remote.  Finally.

Re: Harmony Software on OSX Lion (64-bit)

One further step required. When you go to update the remote after setting up the devices, it will stop about 10% in because it cannot communicate with the website. By accident I found that when the H1000 is plugged into the iMac (reset for 32bit) it kills the internet. Additional step (found be accident):

Go through the devise setup as described.

Go to update the remote

When it stops (with a red error message that it cannot communicate), disconnect the H1000 and hit the continue button (or whatever the button is at the bottom right).

It will come back with the error message to connect the remote.

Re-connect the remote.

Go on with the update.

Then it works.

I went through this twice and worked the same way both times.

Sheesh.

Re: Harmony Software on OSX Lion (64-bit)

Ok, so this whole thing smells of just horrible software development.  I mean, really, asking a user to udpate Java, or restart in 32bit mode?  I am giving this thing today to try and get it to work, otherwise back to BestBuy it goes.

I can not even get it past the Check Connection mode on either my MacBook Air or iMac.  It just sits and spins.  Finally tapping out with the app closing unexpectedly.  I updated the Java Run Time thingy, I restarted the computer, I uninstalled the Logitech, I reinstalled and updated that, I tried again, Nada.  Niente.  Nothing.

However after re-installing the software I did get this warning message (maybe got it the first go around too but didn't pay attention to it, not sure):

The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/WkClassicNotSeizeDriver.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

And that looks ominous to a simpleton like me.  Any suggestions on how to make this pretty POS work on computers running Mac OS 10.7.2 given all I have tried?

Re: Harmony Software on OSX Lion (64-bit)

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone..  I too have had many problems connecting with the 1100 from my Mac.  Used to work a few months ago and now nothing.

Reading everyones responses it seems to be a systemic problem.

I too, tried the canned solutions from Logitech with no success.  I did read though Mr. Bansal response on Dec 21.  I followed his steps with no results.  Not to be beaten by this I was persistant and found that "my" problem was commuications issue involving the Ethernet Port.

After 3 installs and 3 uninstalls, I finally got it to work!  Using Logitechs solution, they mention about manually configuring the Ethernet port manually.  Well their use of "Ethernet(en2)" is not a choice that we get on the pulldown menus.

On the last install, I ran the "update remote" anyway, whereby the system (program) asked me to accept an "Ethernet (en2) connect that it put together for me.  Once accepted, everything ran perfectly.

So for Logitech,  look at how you are handling the Ethernet port and realize that we do "NOT" have the Ethernet (en2) selection on the pulldown menu.  All we have is Ethernet.  Perhaps the drama with my system is that the Ethernet port somehow became corrupted and didn't allow for the (en2) selection.

The last reinstall of the Logitech software fixed the problem.

The communication error on my system was the Ethernet Port!!!!!!  I even tried the manual configuration given to us and you can type all of that until next week, but it still will not work unless that Ethernet Port (en2) is opened.

Hope this helps the many others having similar troubles.

OSX 10.6.8 SnowLeopard

Cheers

Re: Harmony Software on OSX Lion (64-bit)

dmcdayton-  the method does not work for me with my 1100. I am able to update it in 32bit mode , but not in 64bit as you suggest.
