I'm trying to program a Harmony 550 to control a Dish DVR's closed captioning function.
I'm not sure which forum to put this in so I apologize for any duplicate posting.
I tried to follow directions for RAW learning & setting up a sequence but it did not work. So I figured I'd go through it one step at a time & just try the “Menu” command as a sequence. It's already a command which does work from the Harmony's Menu button & does not have to be learned. So that should eliminate one possible problem source. And it is the first step in the sequence I was trying to make.
I went to Customize Buttons > ButtonB > Closed Caption (that’s what I named it).
Then Add Sequence > PVR (that’s the Dish DVR > Menu.
This should have created a simple one step sequence, but is does work.
Obviously I’m missing something here. Any suggestions?

What model DVR do you have? HERE's how I made my CC sequence for a 722. It's impossible to do the whole sequence in one raw learn because it's too long and requires different delays after certain steps. You must do it in small groups of raw learns. It's difficult to do it for a Hopper on a harmony because of the timing between steps required doesn't work with raw learns. If you want the timing for each step for Hopper, let me know. My Hopper CC macro is only 6 steps. You could do step 6 as a raw learn of OK and Live seperated as much as you can. Or just leave it at 5 steps and execute Live manually.
BTW, it works perfectly on my Xsight remote (and all my other remotes) without going through all this raw learn BS you have to use on harmony.

I have the 722k DVR.
However the problem is just having a small sequence work. I was having trouble with a sequence made up of RAW commands work so I figured I'd go back & start with the basics. So I used the existing "Menu" command & made that a one step sequence just to see if I was programming things properly. So there was no RAW or multiple commands. Just the "Menu" command. I had that programmed to the "B" button as a test. But when I press the "B" button nothing happens.
I'm presuming I'm doing something wrong. If the DVR's Menu won't even come up then neither will anything else I add to to the sequence. I've gone through all the steps a dozen times but I cannot even get the one command to work.

If your commands were not learned properly as Raw, could account for your problem. My advice would be to deleate the Dish 722 from your account and add it back in as a 922. Then try to create your Sequence to see if it works. Another note, when learnig a command as Raw, always use as short a press of the original remotes key as possible.

The procedure I linked worked perfectly on my 722k every time. The groups of raw learns are very tricky. You have about 1 second to get your 3 or so commands in, with no space between them.
But regarding your issue of not even being able to get a one step sequence with no raw learns working means something is definitely wrong with your procedure. Can you post any screen shots of the steps you are taking? It should go something like this: in your activity, customize buttons, and add sequence at the bottom of the page. Add up to 5 steps. Make sure you're picking commands from your Dish device and not your TV by mistake. Save the sequence, then assign it to your B button in your activity. Do this by picking Sequence under device then whatever you named your sequence. Have you confirmed the Menu command itself actually works, outside of any sequences? Did you remember to Update your remote after making these changes?

Again, this is not a RAW or any learing command.
The Harmony already works with the 722k. The Menu button on the Harmony does activate the Menu on the 722k.
I am just trying to get the MENU command to also work when used as a sequence & programmed to the "B Button".
IOW I cannot even get a single step sequence to work.
Yes I have updated the remote.

I read your original post, and your steps don't make sense. It looks like you created the sequence last (which isn't possible). Is it possible you didn't assign B to an exsiting sequence?
This is what you should do:
- Customize activity
- Customize buttons
- Add Sequence: Name it Captions or something like that and pick each device and command
- Done
- In Device column next to the B button pick Sequence (not Dish) and in the Command column pick Captions
- Done
- Update remote

I may have written it incorrectly because the Customize Buttons come up before the Add Sequence and I got the order mixed up.
But I just now Removed the Sequence & updated the remote.
Then went back & did it exactly as you stated & updated the remote & it still does not work. Nothing happens when I use the “B” button.
Initially I had a Sequence using RAW but it did not work. I thought maybe the RAW commands were at fault. I then thought why not create the Sequence step by step. But so far the first step does not work, and that’s with using the existing Menu command.
Should I restore the default commands, which I'm presuming are 722k default commands. And then try again. Could one of the previous RAW commands be "stuck" & still programmed to the "B" button for some unknown reason?

As I said earlier, remove the device and add it again then try creating a sequence again. One other question, are you pressing the B button in your Activity or in Devices, Sequences do not work in Devices.

The last function I used was Activities > Watch Dish and I never changed anything, so I figured I was still in the Watch Dish mode. Especially since the Harmony Menu button brought up the Dish DVR Menu.
