Top buttons missing in Harmony software v7.7

[ Edited ]

I downloaded and installed the latest version of the Harmony Remote software (version 7.7.0) for Windows 7 and installed to my PC.  I can login successfully and see Activities, Update Remote, Select Language and other buttons and links on the screen.  But the four buttons at the top for TROUBLESHOOT, PREFERENCES, DOWNLOADS and LOGOUT do not appear.  I try every tab and screen in the program, but these buttons do not appear.

I know where these buttons are SUPPOSED to appear -- I can see these buttons in images of older versions of the software, e.g. at the following link: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1394/1306696868_676e955506.jpg.

So I tried installing the software on a different PC -- a different make, but still Windows 7.  Again, the buttons do not appear.  I tried connecting the remote via USB cable, but no difference.  So I am unable to download firmware or use the PREFERENCES or LOGOUT features.

I suspect an incompatibility with Java or Internet Explorer 9 (if the IE rendering engine is used by the Harmony software) on Windows 7 64-bit.  Or perhaps checking the Remember this login checkbox causes the buttons to disappear.

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

It might be WIndows 7 but does it matter?

The options aren't necessary for normal use.

These buttons matter because Logitech Support has asked me to do a firmware update in Safe Mode, and I need the DOWNLOADS button to get the newest firmware.

Incidentally, the firmware update is an attempt to resolve an issue with my Harmony One whereby the touch screen buttons don't respond until I press them about 5 or 6 times.  This occurs only after the remote has been idle for a time, so it is not a matter of touch screen sensitivity.  Logitech has not acknowledged this to be a known issue, nor have they mentioned whether the latest frimware will definitely resolve it.  It's just the next thing to try...

Anyway, after a week of dead ends, Logitech Support just emailed me saying the buttons are not showing because no Name or Email Address was ever registered (associated) with the Logitech Account for this remote.  They took care of updating the account profile for me.  So I'll try again and see if the buttons now show up.  I'll post the results here within a few days.
