For what it's worth it seems that the 'Unable to display content' error is something of a configuration compiling error hence it's potential causes seem to be many and varied. I would raise a support call if I were you as they always seem to be able to get to the bottom of it (I guess there's only so many things that can go wrong so they know what to look for).

Glad to hear that you were get your issue resolved. It has been my experience that the Logitech Support guys, although slow at times, are pretty good at troubleshooting.

Mathew,
I've just run into the same problem. Any attempt to program the Sound or Picture buttons in an Activity that was created using the Manual option will result in the "Unable to Display Content" message the next time the remote is updated.
I had thought the "Unable to Display Content" issue was separate from the Sound and Picture programming problem, but it's not.
I had to re-create an account from scratch to recover from the original "Unable..." problem. Then I had Tech Support clone my new account. In the cloned account, when I tried to program the Sound button in an Activity, I got the "Unable..." error again.
This time I was able to recover by going back into the "Customize Buttons" option for the Activity, selecting the Sound button, and clicking on "Reset to Defaults". After that I was able to update my remote successfully.
Before I clicked on "Reset to Defaults", I noticed that the settings I had entered for the Sound button on the first pass were gone. After clicking on "Reset to Default", they still looked empty; but something got fixed, because now the update works.
I agree - the best bet is to just stay away from the Sound and Picture buttons and try to do without those customizations.

I am getting this error also, but I am getting it before I can get into the system setup. I got my remote configured yesterday and changed quite a bit due to change in hardware and now I get the message when I login. Can I use software that is not web based? Or even reset my remote, though I do not think that this is being caused by the remote. Maybe I need to start a new account without my old settings?

When I installed the software the first thing it did was update its self. So I decided to uninstall it and reinstall it.
Unfortunately Ben's code is broken.
-- Uninstall Logitech Harmony Client Software - Version 0.3
-- Coded by: Ben De Silva
-- Date modified: 06/06/2008
Would not run until I defined the 3 button variables below:
set btnYes to "yes"
set btnNo to "no"
set btnClose to "close"
DisplayMessage(textToDisplay, btnYes, btnNo)
closeSoftware()
Deleter(displayCompleted, btnClose)
end ignoring
Unfortunately that wasn't helpful. There is no way to avoid the forced upgrade when you start the software.

I use a transparent proxy to block ad servers. Once I disabled that, this janky software started working. I haven't yet researched why it fails to work when enabled.

Hi,
Looks like it's my turn to get the unable to display content when attempting to update the remote. I haven't updated it in quite some time. I added a device or two and deleted some devices and attempted to update and received this message. The onscreen devices and activities look correct, just cannot update the remote itself. After reading these posts I deleted what I added today but still receiving the error. Any suggestions ?
Thanks,
paul

Trying running thru the setup of the different activities that you've had. "Unable to display content" error usually occurs when the software is cannot find a device associated to a particular activity. If you have deleted a device on the account and did not resetup the activities, chances are you will be getting this error.
This link might help.

Thanks AtticCat, that did the trick. The link you supplied was helpful. I found I had to check each activity, even if I didn't think it would have been affected by what I did. I found multiple ones that were missing answers to some of the questions.
