Hi,
I get stuck at the usb connection stage with the Logitech Harmony Remote Software says "Please plug in the remote or press any key to wake it up." I was told that putting it in safe mode and upgrade the firware (using 'download' in the top right hand corner of the remote software, would fix it. The problem is as soon as I start the software it goes to the USB connection screen and I can't get past there. I assume the remote has to be connected before you see the download option.
The same thing happens on my mac and win xp systems. . .
Thanks

When you start the software, even before you connect your remote, the Download option should appear at the top of the screen.

Thanks for taking a look at my problem.
As soon as I start the software I get the USB connection screen. I think this is because I ticked "remember me on this PC" when I first logged into my account. I can't see how I can attach a screen shot so i'll try and explain what i see.
A window with 'Logitech Harmony Remote Software (7.7.0) at the top (along with the minimise, maximise and close buttons.
Under that in the window proper is a green bar with the harmony logo. towrads teh right is a "select language' option then at the very right is the Logitech logo.
Under that is a menu bar with "Getting Started" shaded green ticked, next tabe along is "Check Connection" shaded blue, then "add Devices" "Add Activities" and "finish setup" all greyed out.
Under that are the usb connection instructions along with a picture of the back of a pc <- usb cable .> remote.
At the bottom of the window I have terms of use on teh lhs and a 'previous' button (greyed out) and a 'next button.
I can not see a "download" option anywher on this screen. I reloaded the software as well.

From your description it sounds like you have not added your devices, or activities yet, or you have not logged onto your original account.

I can not remember what my original account was, so I created a new one. This didn't bother me as I have had a complete new home theatre package. If I could "forget me" on this computer I could try finding it again but from memory, you need to tether your remote to find your account details and my problem is I need new firmware to tether the remote . . .

If you havn't made any changes to your remote since you last connected to your old account, there is a way to find your old account. Connect your remote to your PC, start the Harmony software, click on I Forgot My Password, you will have to answer 3 questions, Your Name, TV your last account was setup for, and your zipcode when you last created your account.

It sounds tho that you are stuck on the getting started the intial set up of the remote, and it is just not detecting the remote, try putting it into safe mode and then see if will pass the connection check. What type of operating system/remote are we dealing with?

also if you cannot get past the check connection page uninstall the SW from the computer and reinstall it, and then run it without the remote plugged in this should bring you to your login page, then try the I forgot my password. Do this all while the remote is in safemode

Thanks guys. For your reference, this did not on my Win XP machine but did work on my Mac. I'm now having issues pairing with my new mac/plex/apple TV but I will log this under a new thread.
Thanks again.

start your apple activity, stand within 3 inches of the apple product and hit unpair on the front of your Harmony and this should pair the 2 together
