I would LOVE to use my Harmony Remote with the PlayStation 3 when I watch BluRay movies, but Sony eliminated the IR port so they would force customers into purchasing their own Blutooth remote. The PS3 runs a form of Linux OS and has USB ports galore. I would love to see Logitech make a USB IR dongle to plug into the PS3 so that it would let me use the Harmony IR remotes. Heck, the IR dongles are already out there, so it really would only take Sony to accept some drivers to use these devices.

not an official one, but this works.  items aren't easy to get, and ebay may be your only chance

see the third post for a workaround that some are using to control the PS3 (bluetooth) via IR

Easy Solution!

I hate to put this on this forum but you can buy an USB IR adapter bundled with a cheap remote like this one:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000R5H7KE?tag=on-sale-20&camp=0&creative=0&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=B000...

It works out of the box.   Take your Harmony and program it with the cheapo remote named above and just use the IR dongle to accept the input.   It is a elegantly simple solution and it is cheap, less than $20.  You can also us ethe cheapo remote on other stuff in the house if you want without the USB IR adapter - it is a universal remote after all.

Hope this helps!

yes...

when the other post was made, back in April of 2007 the nyko adapter wasn't released yet...

now, the nyko works, but doesn't power the PS3 on/off...

the IR2BT can turn the PS3 on/off, but is usually out of stock

That is basically what I ended up doing. But the remote receiver is not without its flaws. There are times where the receiver likes to stutter the commands making the PS3 think I pressed a button 2-3 times. But it is better than buying a Sony Blu remote and have multiple remotes sitting around. There can be only ONE! :smileyhappy:

For the most part, you really don't need a "power on" function with a PS3; you have to insert a movie or game anyway, which turns the unit on. An exception would be if you only wanted to use the media functions.

Since Sony added the ability to turn the unit off in the XMB, you at least don't have to get up to turn it off, though a one-button solution for turning everything off would be good.

I bought my Nyko for $10 plus shipping, and other than the lack of power functions, I've been very happy with it. I had to turn down the response time due to too many button presses registering on the PS3.

If you get one, add the device "Game Console (With DVD) > Nyko > Blu-Wave."
