The issue is that unless there is some co-ordinated effort here a lot of people will move to the Apple TV. Which is a pity because there is a point where stability and predictablitiy are benefits that people will prefer over better hardware/technology but poor service.
The issues with the revue are hurting Google and the Google TV brand and reputation. And more importantly for Logitech, their shareholders who may lose faith and take their custom elsewhere along with their customers.
It will be a real pity for innovation if Apple are allowed to stamp their authority on the TV sector due to superior customer service. Heck the apple TV is only $99. hmmm... can you install iphone apps on the Apple TV?

No chance as I see... With 3.1 upgrade, now one can't root the device without opening the box as now there are two steps... one at hardware and another at software level. Locking further down a discontinued product for which they don't wish to provide support is something irresponsible and careless attitude towards customers. How does that make a business sense I am still to come in terms with. But with Logitech, this is not unprecedented. Although they have discontinued Z5500 speakers, they have made difficult for DIYers to repair Z5500 speakers by putting difficult to remove silicon adhesives and nonidetifiable connections on the amp board so that they can be used with other available A/V receivers. What a waste of precious resources. To start with, those are good quality pieces and it does not make sense that within 2 years of the purchase, you have to throw them just because the company decided otherwise....

My experience is just opposite of yours... After the 3.1 upgrade, crashing of flash has become very frequent... so much so that although I see a great potential and other than that I have been happy with the purchase.... the name Revue brings in the mental image of crashing flash. It hasw been such a problem that recently, against my wish, I purchased Sony BD Pleyer with GTV that would hopefuly get updates in future too. Now I have to decide what to do with my Revue that I had developed fondness for.
I feel that in the discontinuance of the Revue, Google is to be partly blamed because they did not put and still not giving adequate focus to the GTV product. It is their big mistake as I perceive it. I hope they don't repent later... Logitech has every right to decide about their business strategy and I feel that probably because of other players involved, they discontinued a product on which they had layed their hand first and could have benefitted if they had stayed on for some more time... In my view, next two years are to be watched. If Google wakes up and draws its attention adequately to the product, it would reap them and partners benefits beyond their expectations.
Traditionally, Logitech products are, although closed but, excellent and till now I have got wonderful customer support (barring Revue as they can't do something they don't have in their hands). That is why, despite my preference for more open products and fondness for customer choices, I have been a loyal Logitech customer. I wish to continue doing that.... Let us see how events unfold...

The Update does not come from logitech. Many people blaiming and talking without reading well. When the update to 3.1 came out was Google who announce it. So this new update is google tv team that is in charge of it. The point is take time to fix the bugs that came out with the sony when they release the 3.1 to sony. The 3.1 still has some bugs that is going to be fix when icecream sandwich comes out and many of you people doesnt use the half of the features of Logitech revue. Get some apps in the dropbox GTV account.

Actually, the update does indeed come from Logitech. We're not talking about the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Revue, but rather the Honeycomb update. GoogleTV is a full Android version behind android phones & tablets and is a different version of Android customized specifically for the GoogleTV hardware from Logitech and Sony, and soon others, such as Visio and LG.
And yes, the core update comes from Google, but not the final update for the Revue. It is "tweaked" and customized for the Revue hardware by Logitech, and released by Logitech. Logitech has had the updated code from Google for quite a while. We are complaining about the length of time it takes for Logitech to release the update to Revue users, as well as the total lack of communication to their customers about the update status.
By the way, the Revue update with Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) probably won't come until we all have flying cars and great-grandchildren. I'm not holding my breath that we'd ever have ICS on the Revue, but Honeycomb will be great and that update alone would satisfy me for quite a while.

That should read 3.2 not ICS. Ain't no way the Revue will receive the 3.2 update. No value to Logitech to do so. They no longer have any interest in this device and the sooner they can get out of it the happier they will be. Their support is ONLY through the warranty period. Thye have repeated this many times. Once enough warranties expire, support will completly cease and the Revue will be come an orphan product (actually it is already).
I for one do not expect to see any further updates on this product by Logitech. As soon as their legal department says it is safe to do so, ALL support for this device will stop.

My Revue is starting to have more and more problems. Netflix is near useless, the unit is slow and websites have problems and many are just to much of a pain to try to stream anyhting from.
I feel burned by the Revue. I only spent $150 on it but I could have bought a 360 or another media hub for the same price. I share everyone else fraustation with these units. Just open the Revue to the community so we can get decent use out the thing. It can't get any more buggy than it already is and we might be able to get updates much faster

My suggestion would be if you are looking to replace Google TV, anything comes closer and better interface is Boxee, or buy a Zotec barebone and install your own choice... Apple TV is not closure to what you get from these products... Even Roku is much better.... however you won't get browser in that... Apple is just a familiar name with fashion... just like Despite of being stripped down, Kidle Fire was a success since it is from Amazon... marketing muscle and familiarity.... Change and novelty is often met with resistance by the majority. When it sustains, herd follows...

Logitech has been and continues to be horrible at keeping there customers updated firmeware updates. This update will actually make the Revue the most usable it has ever been. The HLS functionality included will finally allow streaming transcoding from Apps like Plex and othere. Logitech please let your customers know when this update is going to start moving. Also let us know when you are going to unlock the bootloader sinice it is clear that you have abandoned development on the platform and we the developer community would like to pick up where you left off. Thanks!
