It doesn't work that way.  You have it backwards.  Skype is responsible for making their client compatible with Revue or Google TV.  Not the other way around.

Re: Skype from Android market

That means we never get this thing working?

I thought your technology is using the same modules as androids.

I don't thing Skype is even aware of our ReVue in an existance.

First of all, let me be clear.  It is not my technology.  I am not employed by nor affiliated with Logitech in any way.  My participation within these forums is purely voluntary.

Yes, Google TV is based on the Android operating system, and the Revue is built on top of Google TV.  However, Google decided to alienate certain features from the original Android platform.  This information can be referenced in their unsupported hardware support for GTV page (https://developers.google.com/tv/android/docs/gtv_android_features#Hardware).

Since Google deemed the camera and microphone APIs to be incompatible with Google TV, Logitech used this opportunity to address this gap by creating their own video conferencing platform on the Revue.  It has been over a year now, and Google still hasn't finalized on the standards for the video conferencing platform for Google TV.  And in this time, Skype's developers could have contacted Logitech if they were interested in developing software for the Revue.

It is unlikely they are unaware of its existence, and more likely that they are waiting for Google TV to finalize the standards for the video conferencing platform for Google TV.  This will allow Skype's developer's to use the Android Software Developers Kit (SDK) and make it available for the Google TV platform instead of only for the Revue.

Re: Skype from Android market

This downright **bleep** and is a huge omission by Google.  Videoconferencing is one of the most useful aspects of having the internet on your TV...  Google needs to FIX this if they want to enhance their Google TV platform, if not they should just give up and scrap their entire Google TV effort...why release half baked products?

Re: Skype from Android market

Fully agree!

In fact, all this Skype and Android apps combatility problems are of google's reposnsiblity. Really cannot understand why a skype app wokring perfectly on a Android tablet, but not allowed in a bigger tablet, i.e. a TV? In China, such Android setbox is everywhere!! you can install any apps you can find in Android market like a mobile phone, skype is just piece of cake.

Apple is developing all the hell same thing in fact, iPod, iPhone,iPad, iTV, only differs in size!

The petition campaign, and make the bootloader open to global freelancer developer,  is an essential step to revive the dying Reveu... It will also benefit Logitech and google/Android market itself, also to compete with Apple Store!

Companies are fancy of talking about sustainabilty, but most of them are just interested for cash at the end of next week or IPO and run away!

[ Edited ]
This is something that has been going on for a long time and the current hardware that is out will probably never be "fixed" to support conferencing unless Skype takes a big interest in this devices or sees that it is worth their time developing something for the Google TV platform. It would better to petition them then Google. If they go to Google stating they would like to be added to the Google Tv platform maybe then Google will take notice.
