System Update Requires a Restart

I did not receive a notfication to update.  So I went to About - System Update.

I saw the message for the System Update and clicked on Download.  Something attempts to download very briefly but then stops and nothing else happens.  I've done many restars both by pulling the plug and using Ctrl + Alt + Del without success.

I even tried deleting the wireless connection, unplugging the revue and resetting the router.

If I don't add back my wi-fi network the downloading status bar continues to run but naturally it can't download becuase there isn't an internet connection.  As soon as I turn on the wireless the downloading stops but I still have the download button and nothng happens.

I would advise a factory reset of the Revue.

Use the guide below for how:

If the problem still continues you will need to contact support for more help, look for the talk to an expert section from the guide above. They have phone support, chat, and email. However, keep in mind recently they have been busier then normal and it may take time to get an agent and may take more then one attempt to do so.

Re: System Update Requires a Restart

Exactly the same Problem is now also happening to my Revue.

When I (unhappily) try to reset the device as suggested by the only attempt to a solution, I'm greeted by a "No reset was performed because the System Clear service is not available" message. I'll most likely try the 'hard' reset using the reset button, but this message is kinda odd.

Hello bmn,

Try unplugging the Revue first then see how things go.

Re: System Update Requires a Restart

I did restart it with no better result and then did the hard button-reset. Now I'm completely screwed as I was able to setup the wifi connection but my  box is now lost in a loop of "Downloading..." the system updates that took obviously much longer than the suggested 10-15 minutes (I guess simply because my 4 mbit DSL can't download the 198 MB in that short time frame) and does after some (like 30-80 minutes) just reboot itself, show the nice flash-screen and start updating/downloading the update again. The box is stuck in this loop for the last 24 hours and obviously there's no 'just wait till it did download the update' solution for me. Any suggestions how to succeed?

Re: System Update Requires a Restart

Hello bmn,

If you do the factory reset, does it go back to the beginning of the setup?

If it does have you tried setting up a static IP?

Have you tried setting up the Revue temporarily with an Ethernet cable?

Re: System Update Requires a Restart

Only read your answer now.

Yes - it always restarts the setup, detects my wifi connection, starts downloading and reboots after a certain time. After the first setup it detects the connection automatically and is in an unlimited reboot-update-cycle.

I can try to set it up with a static IP - will let you know if that brings any change.

The Ethernet cable though is a bit more hectic, as my only HDMI-featuring TV set is too far away from the router, so I'm a bit wary to now carry everything downstairs with limited chance of success.

Please offer me a better solution - can I return the box to you?

Re: System Update Requires a Restart

OK - only now I realised something. When I started the box now, after it was plugged out for ca. two weeks (to save electricity) it actually started downloading the updates for the first time. The grey moving "downloading..." bar did slowly change into a blue one. Sadly the internet connection was disturbed and the download halted 1/3 into it and I had to restart. Now - even after hard-resetting it - it seems to never actually restarts downloading the update files. The progress bar always stays grey, even though my internet-connection is detected and stable.

Only from seeing the progress bar now for the first time, I now realised, that it never really started downloading the firmware and most likely rebooted only because it couldn't get the download going. I resetted the Revue multiple times now, but never got the download started - maybe there's a lack of autocomplete download abilities in the updater and it only started downloading now after starting the Revue, because there was an update available that was more recent than the one it started downloading previously? Just some educated guesses, but something with the update process is certainly flawed...

Please explain me how to get this update going... Thx!
