Will the Revue be updated or not, YES OR NO?

It was stated that the Revue would begetting the 3.2 Google TV update. It has been 2 months since the Sony devices received their update.  When will the Revuebe getting an update?

If an update is not planned, please let me know so I can sell this device and buy a supported product like Sony, Vizio, or LG.

Thanks

Hello,

Logitech Revue boxes will receive the Android 3.2 software update, but we cannot comment on timing.

Cheers,

Well thank you for this, it sheds some light on the Revue. It may take some time but at least it will come

Re: Will the Revue be updated or not, YES OR NO?

I'm constantly amazed on how little information the Logitech reps can give on the approximate date of this update.  We don't know if this means they'll update to 3.2 in a week, a month, or maybe 5 years from now.  Surely you can give your valued customers a little better estimate of when we can expect this already painfully overdue update.  How many months has Sony Google TV already had their update? Perhaps Logitech hasn't even started coding this update for the Logitech hardware and is just buying time by saying someday you'll get the update.

I just purchased 185 mouse/keyboard combos (for a client) from Microsoft as a protest.  I know it's a minimal gesture that Logitech won't even feel, but purchasing power is the only power I have.  All Logitech purchases are on hold until they win my trust back.  Right now I feel a knife in my back from Logitech.  It's a simple idea... take care of your customers and they'll remain customers. It's how I do business and I expect nothing less from my vendors.  Customer Service 101, really.

Re: Will the Revue be updated or not, YES OR NO?

I stated this before and will do so again.  Logitech has no economic reason to update this product.  Once the last warrantee runs out, this product will officially achieve orphan status.  Regardless of what anyone from Logitech posts to this site, there will be no update now or ever coming out of Logitech.  Devoting resources to the Revue is a waste of time and money for them.

Further, Logitech could care less about goodwill or about what customers think about them.  They have a sufficient revenue base and could care less about a few of us buying from the competition.  I  have only bought  Logitech mice, keyboards etc since the 80s, but not anymore.  Do you really think that Logitech cares about that.  It may make you feel good to say and do so, but, we are but a mere drop in the bucket.

Logitech is so arrogant, that they think there is no alternative to their products, so why give a rats behind about customers.  They believe that we are just pounding our chests, but will continue to buy their products no mater what we might say here and elsewhere.

Until our actions have a negative effect on the bottom line, and can be DIRECTLY  traced to Revue owners, Logitech has no reason to expend resource on our behalf.

[ Edited ]

YES! You have stated your angry, and in my opinion baseless, rant multiple times. It doesn't help anyone.

You can either keep complaining, which in your own words won't do anything because the only thing that will matter is if our "actions have a negative effect on the bottom line." Or you can be patient and trust that official Logitech admins aren't flat out lying to us... I know from my previous experiences with Android, patience might pay off even in the unlikeliest circumstances.

Furthermore, the Revue is already over 1.5 years on the market. Logitech would be kind to give us another update at this point in keeping with the tradition of Android devices, most Android phones are even abandoned as far as updates go barely a year into being on sale. Of course I just got a Revue, I hope the problems I see reported here are fixed as they hamper advertised features.

Oh, and despite the Revue being discontinued and a sore spot for Logitech's management, they do have a reason to not screw the people who bought them - their Logitech brand name. My experience with this company has been that they take support seriously, they don't always make faultless products but they do support them. I have recieved replacement units so many times from these guys without even asking, for having the smallest issues.

I hope that the delay in the 3.2 update is that as a discontinued product the Reuve doesn't have that many people working on it; it seems a tiny bit more plausible than Logitech admins BSing us 100% percent just for their own amusement as you suggest.

Re: Will the Revue be updated or not, YES OR NO?

DeweyJos,

You missed my point.

I was not angry or ranting but simply stating fact.

FACT ONE:  Except for the government, no entity will expend funds unnecessarily for a "dead project".  As far as Logitech is concerned the Revue is dead or at least on life support.

FACT TWO:  Logitech has stated in previous emails (note the plural)  their intent to only support the devise through the warranty period.

FACT THREE:  The last remaining or at least the majority of the last remaing Revues were sold in Feb 2012 thus the warranty period will expire Feb 2013.  That will be the "Official" end of support from Logitech.  Based on their words not mine.

Based on the above I concluded that Logitech has no economic reason to continue to support this devise except for the warranty support.

If you do not understand this then I suggest you read up on Risk Analysis for Businesses as well as some basic Economics books.

There is the cost of continued support vs the cost of discontinuing support.  Which ever is higher will determine the actions that are taken.  At some point it becomes more costly, in dollars, to continue providing the support.  If there is no offseting benefit for that cost than it makes good business sense to discontinue that support.

In my opinion, I believe that Logitech has reached that point.  I hope they DO come out with the update, but I do not expect to see one or at least not see one any time soon.  If Logitech is expending any resourses for the update, then the project is at the bottom of the priority list.  This is not an angry comment, it is only fact.  And it makes good sense from a business standpoint but not from a consumer point of view.

I am not angry with Logitech, only disappointed.  If they really want to support this devise then they should release the source code as open source for developers to improve upon it.  There is a large community that would welcome this.

Re: Will the Revue be updated or not, YES OR NO?

Not trying to instigate further argument with this update issue, but can you give a reason for why it wouldn't be in logitech's interest to give the open source code out to revue owners. I mean if they've washed their hands of the product, and in their best interest don't want any further bad blood between their customers, then what possibly could be the hold back to releasing a boot loader to the community. It seems that doing this would mend a lot of fences between owners of the revue and Logitech and give the product some much needed life which could only improve logitech's relation with Revue owners and the public at large. Dangling a carrot with the promise of 3.2 and then not producing would only create further animosity. If they truly want to save face with the community, then saying an update is coming only to leave us high and dry could turn things really ugly.
