problems streaming from a website

Im having a problem streaming the audio stream provided by an FM radio station's web site which has an online listening option. It works  on my laptop but fails on Logitech.

I go to a website using google tv chrome installed on logitech review. It is an FM radio website which allows online listening of its audio stream. I select 'listen online' in Chrome. It sends me to a page that allows me 3 selections:

1) Launch MP3 Stream (format mp3 (pls) )
2) Launch MP3 Stream (format mp3 (m3u) )
3 Launch Itunes (format mp3 (pls) )

I clicked on either of the first two and it says download started, but nothing plays.. If i check my googletv downloads, Ill see the download, but if I click the m3u or pls file that it says it downloaded, it says 'cant open file' or 'cannot play'.

If I perform the same steps  in Chrome on my laptop which defaults to windows media player, I have no problems playing these streams. .. Clearly Google TV on Logitech Review is not handling this operation properly.. My question is, does anybody know why, and, would GTVBox, when run on that platform, provide a better result? IS the problem of the googletv/logitech implementation of Chrome, or is it something having to do with the logitech media player, or, is it something totally unrelated?

Thanks.

Re: problems streaming from a website

Hello boostm3,

The revue can only support radio streams that are in a java script, it cannot play a downloaded .pls, you may be able to get results by saving the download on your PC and trying to access it via the LMS app.

Re: problems streaming from a website

LMS=Logitech Media Server, which is similar to Tversity. It is a DLNA server that you can install on your computer to stream media to the Revue from your computer. To access it this program on the Revue you use the Logitech Media Player and you will see that program.

Actually, to access the LMS (Logitech Media Server), you must first install it to your PC or Mac.

Logitech Media Server can be downloaded from...
http://test.mysqueezebox.com/download

The Logitech Media Player (Logitech's DLNA client/reciever) is pre-installed on your Revue unit and should work just fine with most DLNA servers.

You can read up more on LMS at...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logitech_Media_Server
and at...
http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/Logitech_Media_Server

Or if you are interested in the other program which dolby mentioned...
http://tversity.com/
This is the one I use, since it supports folders and it can transcode files on the fly...

WMA, WMV, MJPEG, DVR-MS, AVI (including Divx3/4/5/6, Xvid, and others)
    MPEG1/2/4 (including H.264), MP3 and AAC
    Qucktime MOV
    Real Video/Audio/RMVB
    OGG Vorbis and OGM
FLAC, WMA lossless, Monkey Audio (APE), Musepack Audio (MPC) and Wavpack
    Flash Video
    Matroska (MKA and MKV)
    Karaoke CDG/BIN
    And many more…

OR if you have a Windows 7 PC and just want to set up a DLNA server without installing any additional software...

Have you checked if the station you want to listen to is listed in the Internet Radio Directory at...

http://www.shoutcast.com

Here is a link for further information on Shoutcast streams...

http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Revue/Anyone-figured-how-to-listen-a-Shoutcast-radio-on-Revue/td-p/575...

LoganLogitech, a ".pls" is a playlist file. It is nothing more than a simple text file with a list of links to the true content location. For example, a .pls for NPR radio may look like

......

[playlist]
numberofentries=1
File1=http://69.166.45.47:8000
......

The true content for that stream is located at http://69.166.45.47:8000

More information on pls files can be found at...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PLS_%28file_format%29

As a side note, "XiiaLive Lite - Online Radio" will allow you to directly play your radio station's stream, but you will have to find the apk (google search for "com.android.DroidLiveLite-45.apk") for it and sideload it to your revue through a service such as dropbox

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.DroidLiveLite

Actually, Im having no trouble streaming media to my Review from my pc as long as the media is seen and playable in Windows Media Player... This seems to work fine.   As for the radio stations, Ive been using the TuneIn Radio app which provides loads of radio streaming content.. So I think im all set; thanks for all the good responses from everybody.
