Re: Alert 750i indoor master - record through window during the night

If the camera has power, it should work fine standalone...with whatever settings it was last given by Alert Commander.

Having said that, using the camera HomePlug power adapter, it is still capable of HomePlug communication...so if another brand of HomePlug is attached to the router, I can't say if it would work, not work, or interfere...something you'd just have to try.  The other side of the coin is if the Logitech HomePlug network adapter could work with the other brand clients.

If you could go PoE, it certainly would simplify things...but that's primarily a cabling question for you.  If the camera Homeplug power adapter causes issues, another option might be to use a PoE injector ( or a PoE switch ) to simply power the standalone camera...no network connection.

...until you try, hard to say...you can only worry so much <g>

Re: Alert 750i indoor master - record through window during the night

Hello Kent777,

As UselessS stated it is hard to say how the Homeplugs that come with our cameras will act in your setup.

Depending on the Homeplugs you already have you may have to setup a password with ours as they have the same default passwords (HomePlugAV) as some other companies.

To do this you would unplug your existing homeplugs then setup the cameras.

Next you would go to our Settings then Security and Web then advanced. Here is where you would add a "secure local camera network" password.

Once this is done you should be able to add your existing homeplugs back into your network.

Re: Alert 750i indoor master - record through window during the night

Hi all,

Thanks a lot.

Great inputs..

Well, my Home Plug device is this.   MHP-EA200

http://medialinkproducts.com/support.php

This has worked well without any issues connecting to various things(PC, Printer, DVDw/Network feature etc), so started to wonder why not for this camera.   Please let me know if you think or think not that this device would cause issue..

>Next you would go to our Settings then Security and Web then advanced. Here is where you would add a "secure local >camera network" password.

Would this step above, then can I only connect my Medialink Home Plug device to the router(as well as PowerOutlet),

the connect the camera to operate..?   Or are you saying that I have to connect "both" Media Link and Logitech HomePlugs to the rounter(as well as Power Outlet)..?

Thanks a lot...

Hello Kent77,

Once you added a password to your camera network (our Homeplug devices) you would then be able to plug your other ones back in and it should all work together, but be like seperate mini networks.

This is so that the cameras do not get confused about which adapters they should be communicating with.

Re: Alert 750i indoor master - record through window during the night

Thanks for the inputs and I took as I need to connect both Logtech device and Medialink device to the router.

Well, I only have 4 slots in my router and I kinda of do not like to loose 2 slots(as I wanted to keep some "direct" connects  not through these HomePlug devices), but I may have no choice.

Is there any router that offers more than 4slots..?   Maybe not, but let me know if you know.

Well, I just placed an order for this camera system and will see how things go.

Thanks a lot.  This is a great support place...

You simply need to add a switch.  If you ever plan to run your cameras via PoE, then a switch with PoE ports would be something to consider.

Re: Alert 750i indoor master - record through window during the night

Hi,

I got a bridge=Dlink with 8slots (so that I can increase the number of direct connection), then got the Logitech cameras.

Connected the camera as instructed previoulsy(=mini network) that I connected the cameras using Lgictech homeplug device and at that time, my Mediatech HomePlug device was disconnect.

The cameras worked fine and I was able to see the recorded images.

Then, a problem happened...

I have a DVD player with Network feature which is connected to my Mediatech homeplug device, then my wife(who did not know that I was disconnecting the mediatech homeplug device at bridge), turned it on and so that she can see Amazon Instand videa through the network.  I relaized the sound coming from the next room, then started to wonder that why the DVD is showing the streaming video..(while it was disconnected at the bridge).

While the DVD showing the streaming image, I reconnected the Medialink HomePlug device to the bridge, then, DVD player lost the Network connection.  "Not good..."   Then, I tried to see my Printer that is also connected to the Medialink home plug.., did not work... "Bad"...

Ok, then, I disconnect the Logitech Homeplug from the bridge, then tried the DVD player again, then, I was able to see the streaming image again..  Hmm...   I also went down to the basement to see if I can connect my PC to the Medialink homeplug and I was able to see the Internet web...   However, strange that my Printer still did not work..

Then, I connected again the Logitech Homeplug to the bridge.., then DVD player lost the connection again...

Bottom line observation:  Logitech Homeplug seems to disable my Mediatech homeplug connection when both connected to the bridge.

Can someone please advise me if there is any workaround so that I can connect both Mediatech and Logitech Home plugs at the Bridge without issues..??

Thanks...

Re: Alert 750i indoor master - record through window during the night

Hi again,

Wanted to quickly mention that I fogot to set the "password" that the Logitech support mentioned to me previously.

My fault..

I would try this one again maybe tonight and let you know the result..

Meanwhile, if you have any inputs and comments, please let me know..

Thanks

Re: Alert 750i indoor master - record through window during the night

Since you didn't set the password yet, and the DVD obviously worked with either network adapter, did you try the PC and printer with just the Logitech network adapter ( coming from power off on each to initialize connection ) ? Ideally, using just one is the best...if everything works with it. Conversely, could you see the cameras with just the Medialink adapter ? Just something I'd try before getting into dual HomePlug network mode ...just because it "might not" doesn't mean it "won't".

Re: Alert 750i indoor master - record through window during the night

Hi

Here is what I tried tonight.

- Unpulg my Medialink Home Plug device from the bridge.

- Connect the Logitech Home Plug device as well as connect the cameras at two locations.

- Open up the Logitech Software and I was able to see "Live" image coming from the two cameras on my PC.

- then follow the instruction to set the password(but before doing so, I set my new account)

Then,

- as soon as I put my own password, then clicked "Apply", then realized that I lost all cameras connections...

Another funny thing happened,

- I anyway plugged in the Midialink Home Plug to the bridge, then now I "lost" Internet connections on my 2 PCs that

  are connected to the bridge...!

So, I unplugged Logitech Home Plug device from the bridge..

- As soon as  I unplugged it, then, the internet connection "came back on line" for my 2 PCs...

Hmmm...

Also, to answer to some of questions:

- If I plugged the camera into MediaLink Home Plug device, no, it did not work.

- I have not tried Logitech Home Plug device for my DVD, Printer etc yet...

I feel like I am loosing options..
