I have desktop alerts and email alerts on always, never turning them off. Email alerts always work, desktop alerts whenever.
Some days desktop alerts work great, then I may go several days when they don’t work at all. I always go to the setup page and click a sound in commander settings before bed to check speaker volume but still its potluck if they will work with motion.
I set the alerts to 3 second delay due to passing cars on a 4 outdoor camera setup and disable one camera mic and click that camera so I won't hear wind and other outdoor sounds.
I also just installed a Creative PCIe sound card to take away some motherboard duty to see if that would help, didn't.
Anyway, just thinking there may be some trick to better desktop alert reliability, Thanks

Sorry for the delay in response.
I understand that you are not getting Desktop alerts when a motion is detected by your camera. I see that you have attempted to enable different audio settings and you don't receive alerts nor do you hear any sounds when a motion is detected.
Normally when a motion is detected, it should send you a alert in the means of a pop up on the lower right hand side of your Computer and play the set audio. If this is not working Properly, it could be that the commander is not communicating properly with your Camera(s) or there is a lag from the camera to your Commander.
Here is what I would do to see what might be causing this disconnect. Check the Motion Filter settings for your Desktop Alerts. You might have different values for the E-mail alerts and your Desktop Alerts.
The Motion Filter determines how frequently you would receive a desktop alert. If you have set it up for 3:1 then you will get an alert every 3 minutes and there has to be a constant motion for 1 second or more. If it dosen't fall under that criteria, you will not get the alerts.
If this dosen't resolve it, attempt to see if you can re-install the Software. I would recommend that you do a clean install by following the steps provided on the below link :

Desk top alerts seem to be working better. I think that I may have to much going on in front of the cameras with passing cars on two cameras, trying to filter out some of that and trying not to miss anything on two other cameras.
Gota trade off something, don't want the cars but on the other hand I don't want to miss bigfoot in the backyard. LOL
So i set required motion down to two seconds, and its non stop alerts. Had to move back to three seconds where I seem to miss out.
The whole point in the beginning was sometimes desktop alerts just wouldn't work but magic is with me now and they have started to work like they should.
I might do a clean install one day but for now I'll leave well enough alone.
