Indoor cam on window in the sun...

I like to keep an eye on the side of my house and I have an indoor cam version. I have it up by suction cup. So far, so good. I'm wondering though what direct sunlight would do to this camera. It's in a window with a part of the day in direct southwest exposure. Will it damage it? I can't find anywhere where this might have been answered. I appreciate anyone's suggestions and/or experience with this.

Re: Indoor cam on window in the sun...

Hello oregonuser,

I am going to speak to you as a customer here .I can give you a personal gurantee in this regards that the direct sunlight will not harm your indoor camera that is mounted on the window using a suction cup.  Where I live, we don't experience intense weather as in texas or asia where you can fry an egg but, it does get quite hot during the noon.

I mounted my camera up an year ago and I have not taken it down yet and it works like a charm. I even open and close the window with it being mounted and its rock solid.

Re: Indoor cam on window in the sun...

Thank you, that does put my mind at ease. On a different note, I've noticed that the camera on this window, facing southwest, is very dim all the time when on automatic for the contrast and dark and light. I have to take it off of automatic and make it lighter and less contrast. It works great that way. My other 4 cameras I don't have to do that. Three of which face outside and one is an inside facing camera to my living room. Does the direct sunlight cause that? I've rebooted and even reset it and it's still like that. I haven't gone to the trouble of experimenting to see if another camera at that location would do the same thing because I finally have all my cameras right where I want them.

On yet another note, the indoor cams that face outside where there are floodlights that come on with movement, actually do a decent job of see and capturing movement. Not as good as night vision by a long shot, but it's still pretty good depending on your needs.

Re: Indoor cam on window in the sun...

Hello oregonuser,

As I had stated above, personally I haven't had any problems. That being said, it is strictly recommended not to have any camera in direct sunlight for a long period.

I understand that you are not interested in swapping camera(s) which I can understand. What I would like you to do is perhaps move this camera to another location.  Even simpler test would be to just swap the location of the Suction cup and mount the camera facing inwards away from the sun.

Check to see if you see any difference in the image quality and resolution.

If the Quality is not as good, try performing a Manual Firmware update on the Camera via the Commander. If it is a software glitch re-applying the firmware update would correct that.

Let us know how it goes.
