Bad Mac OS X Support. Why?

Hello forum members,
Hello Logitech-Team,

I have a Logitech G500 mouse, so a current available mouse by Logitech. Why does this mouse does not have Mac OS X support? There are many current and upcoming games which supports Mac OS X (from Blizzard and many games in Steam) and business software like Microsoft Office and other software which are used by many users in Mac OS X.

Why Logitech has a bad Mac OS X Support? Currently Logitech selling less PC peripherals, so a good solution is to have a greater range of full supported Mac OS X products (there are currently a lot of Mac OS X users). Logitech has the "Logitech Control Center for Macintosh® OS X" but why are so less products are supported with these software?

@especially Logitech:
Do you have a possibility for a voting for this request? I think many users what to have more Logitech Mac OS X supported devices.

regards

Hi Anton C,

any progress or reaction from your dev team yet? There are many Mac OS users out there who own Logitech mice. As this normally is a community willing to pay for quality, it should not be ignored too long ;-)

Re: Bad Mac OS X Support. Why?

Hi Anton C,

I'm considering to buy this G500 model, but it still doesn't seems to have a driver for Mac:

     http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support/gaming-mouse-g500?crid=398

Is there any chance one will be available anytime soon?

Do you know if the Mac driver for Performance Mouse MX

works with G500 for basic configurations?

By the way, zivilist is rigth: Logitech should have support for Mac OS, it can't be so hard, and it's awful to force customers to rely on third-part paid alternatives like SteerMouse (http://plentycom.jp/en/steermouse/) or USB Overdrive (http://www.usboverdrive.com/), at $20 USD a license without guarantee to work properly with Logitech's mouses.

Caio, change your mind, and don't buy a G500 if you are still in time.

I'm a lucky owner of an iMac 27 with MountainLion onboard and I'm going crazy to find a free solution to properly configure my G500.

I was a Logitech fan, and among many other logitech products I bought in my life this is my third G500 (the first one was just a G5) and I think also the last one.

I'm re-considering the brand logitech at all. It's unthinkable they let third parts (steermouse and usboverdrive) make profit on their products leaving us alone without any kind of official support.

Sorry logitech this time you failed.

At the moment I'm looking for an alternative mice, I will not pay 20€ for an unofficial sw. I'll prefer to spend 50$ for a new 100% compatible mouse of another brand.

Best regards

Giancarlo

Re: Bad Mac OS X Support. Why?

I regret getting my G500 now. I thought that Steermouse or USBoverdrive would be good enough but they are not.

I was going to get the M570 for everyday stuff and have the G500 for gaming, but they lost me as a customer. I won't be buying another Logitech product (even though I want to) until they fully support Mac.

I'm about done with Logitech. Used to swear by them, now sweat AT them. Why ignore the Mac market, especially now that Mac has gone intel? why IGNORE a potential customer base of maybe a million Rabid, Loyal buyers? well, you've now lost me, a decreasingly loyal customer of many years...just bought a g500 mouse only to find, again, no Mac support. I guess you're blinded by success, and can write off a huge market...how good for you. Razor supports Macs with their products, and shows a product with great design and software. By-By Logitech, I wont buy or recommend you're stuff again. :smileysad:

Re: Bad Mac OS X Support. Why?

Hi I can see you are frustrated with Logitech but lets look at it from both sides. All Apple products are propriety information this means they give out no information to manufactures to allow them to make things work or they have a heavy fee for doing so. They have so many lawsuits against other companys I am surprised they still have time to make PC's who really wants to play in that mess. As you said they are all Intel now so why anyone would pay twice as much for a Mac over a PC with the same components is beyond me and don't say it is the Mac os as that can be installed on a regular PC as well. Maybe you need to complain to Apple about there policy.

Oh this is so full of it.  OS X's HID stack is opensource, the bluetooth stack follows industry standards.  No magic, nothing hidden, no fee, just no effort on Logitech's behalf.  If you want to talk propriatary, it is logitech that is cutting off developers from developing proper drivers by refusing to release documentation on their products.
