SetPoint maybe needs to be less snazzy?

Just wondering if Logitech is being too tricky with their latest versions of SetPoint.

I've been using Logitech mice since 1995 and nothing else.  They've generally made their products better and the Mouseware and SetPoint software better too.  Recently though, the SetPoint has been more and more finicky.  I recently tried to install 6.2 on Windows 7 64-bit and, while it installed, it did not recognize the Trackman I use.

After looking on the forums, here at Logitech, etc., I found that the SetPoint needs to "download picutres" for their products which apparently never happened no matter how many times I rebooted or uninstalled/reinstalled the software.  While this is a snazzy way of reducing the download footprint, it clearly has some issues.

I ultimately had to install an old version of SetPoint 4 which worked IMMEDIATELY.  I then installed 6.2 which removed 4 and subsequently worked and included the correct picture of my Trackman and I could move on.

So, maybe SetPoint needs to be just a bit more basic and just identify the mouse and allow you to configure it without requiring some snazzy "picture download"?

Just a thought.

Re: SetPoint maybe needs to be less snazzy?

Agreed.

The window is huge for what it does, and I'm not really sure how the settings affect windows settings....

Please keep the download under 3mb (2 floppies).  Any more than that is just bloat.  Focus on efficiency.
