Tips & Tricks for z-5500D Control pod

[ Edited ]
If you all didnt know these speakers have a few features you probably had no idea it had. Heres a short list of em. I think its kinda cool myself. The second skin is a bit different. Enjoy

1) "Volume Offsets". When listening to any of the "Analog Inputs" (Direct,Direct1,Direct2,Direct3), * you can set a "volume offset" by pressing mute while you turn the volume knob. It will always remember to kick your volume up by this many dB when you switch to this input. Why would you want this? Most audio systems have different output levels. Ever notice how you need to adjust the volume when you switch from one input to another? With this, you can "preset" these inputs a little hotter, so when you're flipping back and forth, the volumes match.

2) "Diagnostic Mode". When the unit is off, if you press and hold the Input and Effect buttons simultaneously for six seconds, you will put the unit in "Diagnostic Mode". In this mode, whenever a digital stream is detected, it will display information about that stream for five seconds, just like a receiver does. Might as well always leave it in this mode. It doesn't hurt anything, and the information is fun to have.

3) "Second Skin". With the unit off, if you press and hold the Input, Effect, Settings, and Mute buttons all simultaneously, for six seconds, you will activate an alternate display which is slightly different. It's coolest feature? Purple Off Light!

4) "Volume Boost". When listening to any input, if you keep turning the volume up past "full", you can get up to an extra 11dB of volume. Why would you want this? Very quiet audio files from a voice recorder, for example. Or, just to really crank it!

"Boost 11" is a setting past MAX (you keep turning) and provides some kick **bleep** sound. You would have to be nuts to want to run boost 11, and its advised by Logitech that you should only ever use boost 11 when listening to really low bitrate songs and recordings, and that extensive use at this level may cause damage to your speakers.

5) So, what do they do? Have another easter egg called "Boost 22" hidden in the speakers only recently found out about.

To get to this new, stupidly loud, earth shattering kaboom like volume, you simple crank the controlls to Boost 11, then hold down the MUTE button and continue to crank the unit. I think this only works in Direct Input though. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK !!!

Let's hear what you think about these !!!

Hi Kirby98,

Thanks for sharing the amazing find! I only managed to discover the diagnostic mode few weeks ago.
If you find more easter eggs, please share them with everyone!

Hi,

If you do change the control cenetr to the second skin, will it damage the control center and is there a way to change it back?

Thanks

Hey Patboy,

You must have a problem with your control pod, Because i can change mine back & forth between skins without any problems.
Now i've only done this with the newer Z-5500's (regular speaker wire). I cannot gaurantee this works with the older ones, The ones with RCA plug in's.

So in the second skin mode the purple is only on when off but the blue returns when the system is on ok well I thought that the purple would be on where ever the blue light where but O well that is ok. A bit difficult for just that but that is ok. I'm not going to try the rest I'm sure they would work as well. Now does this new skin effect the sound in any way cause I was wonder because it sure does seem like I can hear things even better now then the other way and my bad I thought the purple only came on when the thing was off but no every time you adjust the volum on some thing and the bars are different as well. Well I guess it is ok to go through all that just to get this thank you again and I hope every body is enjoying there new skins that is all the one that did do it.

Re: Tips & Tricks for z-5500D Control pod

Alright now I have done the second skin mode for a while and now I want my old way back so I did it exactly the way I got the second skin on and now when I go to watch tv I only get my front 3 to work not the back ones and all I can get is effect digital and I can't get PLII or anything else but when I'm on the pc I can get every thing. Am I doing something wrong or is there some other way to get my old way back.
