I have read almost everything that you mentioned , you must be an expert at this stuff . Mind if i get your autograph ? lol
You mentioned how the weight of the subwoofer Z-623 was slighter lighter in (grams) in comparison to the Z2300 . Does this have an major affect on performance ?
Which would you chose Logitech Z5500 Or The Z906 . I feel like there could be slight improvments that need to be made to those 5.1

Thanks for that extremely in-depth review of the two systems. Just the kinda review I love!
I've owned the Z-2300 for about a year now and have just fallen for them head-over-heals.. so have my friends.. who come over just to listen to the music and sound these babies produce.
Sadly, I lent them to a friend for his birthday party where some jack-a** fooled around with the volume control (like it was a turn-table) too much and ruined the voice coil in the right speaker. Contacted Logitech hoping for a repair or replacement but they couldn't do either as the model was phased out. They sent me the Z623's as a replacement and at first look the internals seemed to be the same so I didn't bother (I didn't do a thorough research, just looked at the specs on Logitech and some other review sites)..
When I got the set, the size gave it right away. The subwoofer is much smaller and lighter.. But I didn't care as the Z-2300's monsterous sub was more than what I needed anyways..But the moment I set them up and started listening, I knew it was lacking something compared to the Z-2300's.. and after researching some more on the net I learned the satellites are less powerful and then I came across your THOROUGH INSIDE-OUT analysis of the two sets..
Depressed isn't the word. Wish I could repair the the Z-2300's satellite. ANY IDEAS IF I CAN GET A REPLACEMENT VOICE COIL FOR IT???

What is minimum to maximum power supply (Voltage e.g... 100-240 Volt) required to operate Z-623 speaker ?

Very good information. I used to own the Z-2300 but I gave it to a good friend who was impressed with it. I recently bought (yet to receive) the Z-623, but I hope Logitech will do an update on the Z-2300. It truly was an impressive system. And George Lucas should be more careful what systems he allows to use the THX certification.
Help!!

I got the Z623 for a birthday present in July. Just 2 weeks ago, I moved them from my room to my living room and they stopped working... I'm wondering if any of you possibly know why this happened. This may not be the best place to ask but it seems like you know a lot about the technical aspect of these speakers. They were working all day and then I turned them off and moved them to my living room and they turned on but no music would play. I also went out and got a new aux cable but that didn't change anything. I love these speakers and there sudden death really upset me. Please help!!!

Hello RishiGuru, I really enjoyed reading your comparison review and it is very helpful. You showcased the clear victory of the z2300 over z623 in almost every aspect. However, you didn't mention what alternatives of the z623 are available in the same price range but with performance similar to that of the z2300 if any. I would greatly appreciate it if you share your opinion about this.

Wow thats a great review. It really drives it home to most of us who did not want to believe something was a miss even though it was painfully obvious. With that said I just picked up the Z-623 and find them to be decent as pointed out it could be better. Quality seems to be going the way of the dodo bird. Ever since the economic collapse of 2008 i feel profit margins have eaten away at quality. I don't always blame the manufacturers though. If you look ten years back there were a few big players, namely Klipche, Logitec, Altec, Creative ect in the PC speaker market. Now these very companies have to contend with insanely cheap products most of which are knock offs from Chinese companies. Now certain enlightened folks Like Rishi and Zcinema have a ear for detail but the truth is these kind of deserning folks are a minority. A good analogy would be the sound card market. With the advent of onboard sound we said farewell to several Sound Card manufacturers; simply because onboard was good enough for most people. The bread and butter has to come from somewhere and with more people being price concious in this turbulent world economy the Chinese firms are picking up the slack. As margins shrink either manufacturers cut costs or do away with the product line altogether. This can be seem with Samsung considering leaving the PC monitor space because too many generic Chinese firms are eating into their margins with insanley low cost displays. It would be safe to say this trend is going to continue into the future.

I also have both speaker sets
The old one z2300 is way, way, way better.....I am suspicous of new products now as a result...it seems to be more of a cost cutting issue
my z2300 set is about 6 years old, but it's the best bang for your buck......my house literally rattles
It even beats my 7.1 onkyo system, which has a 10" sub
