Logitech 5.1 audio speakers not working

I have an older speaker system. A 5.1 surround sound system. It is connected to the on-board audio capable of 8.1 speakers.

My computer is a custom. It uses a ASUS P6T MB. I7 processor with DDR3 6 Gb memory. I have an ATI (Sapphire) Radeon HD 5750 1 Gb graphics board. Monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster P2770HD TV. I am running Windows 7 x64 professional.

I receive audio only through monitor.

All audio drivers are up to date.

I have roommates which have the same MB, different speakers. All have this same problem.

Obviously, there is a conflict with the drivers. There is one for the Monitor and one for the on-board audio. On going through the control panel > hardware sound > sound > manage audio devices, I am unable to select the "speakers". It only lets me use the "ATI HDMI Output".

This problem may be a bit vague, but contact me for more info, if needed.

I would like to know how I may get the speakers to work. is there a difference between digital and analog speakers? or am I off-track?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Logitech 5.1 audio speakers not working

you can try to disable the HDMI audio out form the control panel or select the 'Speakers' and click set default, or both.

if it cant be disabled or set default to, then i guess it's the problem with your drivers. try to google for similar symptoms.
