I suggest you get a Creative Audigy sound card, as they have the option to upmix 2 ch to 5.1 ch

Figured this out last night, started the day before, googling and so forth. Finally after talking with a friend he helped me stumble upon what I needed to get those speakers working. At least for my issue and I didn't see this one on any other site I looked on. If you will notice your speaker icon in your bottom tray toward the right/ the one that controls the volume. Right Click on it and then click playback devices. When that's up notice that your speakers should be on the top with a check as default device. Right Click on this icon, most likely it says high definition audio device. Click on Configure speakers then just click on the 5.1 system that best fits what you have. Click test and you should see all speakers are working! Then just click next and continue through the instructions. Just to make sure all speakers work when finished go to speaker properties you can use the same path as above just go to properties instead of configure speakers. Click the enhancements tab and then select the speaker fill feature. Click apply or ok. You should have success. Hope that helps you many people out there getting frustrated!!
