Hi-
I am looking to buy a surround set for my newly acquired Mac mini. Bear in mind I am a total Mac newbie and have no idea where to start almost ![]()
Here are my questions:
1) is the Logitech X-530 set a good choice for use with a Mac mini?
2) Do I need to get any additional cables to install it?
3) Is it at all possible to have the sattelite boxes connected wirelessly (the thought of having cable running to those sattelite speakers almost ruins the whole idea for me
All help is greatly appreciated!
Groeten,
Erik Spierenburg

Hi,
The X-530 and X-540 will not give surround sound to a Mac without a 5.1 sound card. That would be an add on if one exists.
Logitech Customer Support for further assistance.
You can also Email Us

with new imacs the only connection for the x-530 is a headphone jack... does that mean your not getting a true 5.1 surround and if no it doesn't how do you get true surround out of your mac?

Look at the Mac minis jacks descriptions in the link below.
The headphone jack also can do optical digital output.
I have seen optical cables that fit the Mac mini's headphone jack.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3478
I am not sure if it is 5.1 sound.
The Imac specifications sheet also mentions a dual function audio output jack.
Analog Stereo and and Optical
http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html
Both the X-530 and X-540 don't have optical inputs . So they would not work with your Mac's
I thought I saw an optical audio to analog 5.1 adapters but they seem to be expensive in my abbreviated search.

Hi CHAS043,
There is no software needed for the X-530's. In order to fully experience 5.1 surround sound on your Mac, you will need a sound card that supports it. If your system is not equipped with such, you may need to purchase an external 5.1 sound card that is compatable with your Mac.
Please take a look at the X-530 manual, shown below.
