Unhappy perfomance of Logitech Z5500 Subwoofer - Possible Control Pod Fault?

Ok well id like to say, in as little words as possible, ive had my Logitech z5500 Setup since Christmas 2008, about 6 months and since the day of installing the system ive never been 100% satisfied with the bass output. I was under the impression from youtube videos, amazon reviews, friends e.t.c that the logitech z5500 Subwoofer was extremely overpowering and boomy however the bass that I recieve be it at 25/50 or 100% subwoofer volume is almost non existant, although its there its by no means 'overpowering'. Ive not been satisfied since purchase as im almost 99% sure that the Subwoofer/Control isnt functioning properly. Becasue of this ive purchased new speaker wire, an xfi xtreme gamer soundcard, an optical cable, and purchased a proffesional Equaliser software. No doubt ive heard a difference but its still not within the catagory of 'extreme' or 'overpowering' as i still have to turn the main volume up which turns the satellites up as well, Im sure this amount of tweaks arent required to experince the boomy bass described by almost 254 others from Amazon.com reviews. Ive come to the conclusion that it may possible be my control pod not picking up or distributing the proper amount of bass regarding how much is turned up on the sub volume (i.e 100% vol isnt 100% vol it may only be 50%).

Id really like to get to the bottom of this issue as i honestly can admit i havent gone more than 2-3 days since purchase that i havent spent hours tweaking with the settings. I appreicate the logitech z5500 system however im almost definately sure its not fully functional.

My room is an average 11ft by 9ft room with bed, cupboard, pictures e.t.c, the sub is housed under my desk in the corner which through hours of moving have concluded it sound best there. Id also like to note that it takes an almost 100% 32hz/65hz gain on the equiliser to achieve bas heavy enough to shake objects on my desk. My dads 50watt high efficient homemade subwoofer using a peerless 10" XLS sub and passive on even low bass frequencies out plays my logitech z5500 sub with absolutely no competition.

Id really appreicate help from the logitech community and support staff.

Thanks for reading.

Play a 20Hz tone ,max the subwoofer and put the volume at 50%.Look at the woofer,if he is moving like crazy the sub performs fine ,if it's not then you've got a defective system.

Re: Unhappy perfomance of Logitech Z5500 Subwoofer - Possible Control Pod Fault?

I hate to say it but it takes 100% main volume and 85% sub volume to achieve what could be regarded as 'alot of movement', the other 10% of sub volume have no actual sound gain just a very melow sound.

Cheers.

Try resetting the Control Center by pressing Input+Settings for 6 seconds in Standby mode until the firmware appears on the LCD.If this dosn't work then you have a defective Control Center or amp.You have to replace him.

Re: Unhappy perfomance of Logitech Z5500 Subwoofer - Possible Control Pod Fault?

thanks for yur help audiophile i will give your solution a try when i get back from school in 6 hours. Ive also noticed this last week two occasions when my control pod LCD screen blue backlight has flickered (one lasting for upwards of 5 minutes).

Just wondering what is Logitechs policy on returning damaged goods? I should still be under warranty as it was purchased Chritsmas 08.

Thanks

Re: Unhappy perfomance of Logitech Z5500 Subwoofer - Possible Control Pod Fault?

I cant believe it audiophile but i think reseting the firmware has actually done it. Just been playing my music, without an equaliser on 0.5 blocks of bass and it still felt boomy. Very happy at the moment, im so glad i dont have to take it back.

thanks audiophile, ill blast the bass when the parents go out tommorow and give you my verdict.

cheers.

Re: Unhappy perfomance of Logitech Z5500 Subwoofer - Possible Control Pod Fault?

Well abit unfortunate actually, turned it on this mourning and everything sounded the same again, speakers really bright and trebley though nothing wrong with them, sub however wasnt as bassy no way as before. Last night 0.5 bass was the same sound as 10.0 this mourning. I tried resetting the control pod firmware again but it sounded the same :/ It sounded amazing last night, i think it has to be the control pod, everytime I turn it off/on the sound is different.

thanks

You have no idea how annoying this is, it was probably working correctly yesterday now it back to not working again, i heard its potential last night I wish it souned like that every time.

Re: Unhappy perfomance of Logitech Z5500 Subwoofer - Possible Control Pod Fault?

Try connecting the speakers to an mp3 player, dvd player...But if you say that the LCD is flickering then definetly the Control Center is faulty.I had the same problem before and I had to replace the z5500
