Z-5500 Mute On Over Temperature error

[ Edited ]

For about a year now I've been having trouble with the control pod of my long-lasted Z-5500 speaker system.  At times it'll display "Mute On Over Temperature".  However, I've found a temporary solution in adjusting the cable that connects to the subwoofer.

It seems if I bend it in *just* the right way, the control pod will function normally.  The drawback of this is, if I so much as slightly bump my desk, the control pod will revert back to the error, and then I have mess with the cable in the back again to get it at the right angle for it to work.

The error message seems to be to prevent overheating, but it's most certainly malfunctioning here, as when I do get the thing working, it runs for hours on end with no problem (until I bump the desk or cable).

Is there any way to fix this?  I've tried resetting the control pod.  The system is most certainly past the warranty, too.  Seeing as it's no longer being made, I have my doubts I could get the pod replaced even if I paid for it.
