Z-5500 Sound Issues

[ Edited ]

So I recieved my Z-5500 the other day...

I unpacked, and set the system up carefully with my newly bought X-fi Creative 5.1 Surround External USB sound card which I installed and updated all drivers.

I tested a couple of songs from spotify, it was all fine... I thought I could watch a movie when I was at it and I picked The Dark Knight (DVD)...

I thought it would be cool to check it out how it was in 5.1 surround.... 1 minute into the movie .... I was like "theres no talking?" I ran it in the newest version of VLC, having audio device set on 5.1... there was no vocals.... tho I could still hear the surround sounds, but no talking. So I ended up using 2 front and 2 back setup instead. Quite a disappointment.

So... I went back to the music, I tried to play "I'm so Sick" by Flyleaf... and the start was horrible... it was like someone was messing with the volume.. and the vocals was .... like it was under water.. 20 seconds into the song it goes ok again. But some of the vocals during the song goes very low, I tried "How I could Just Kill a Man" by Rage Against The Machine... and its the same the start (40 seconds) is just horrible... vocals go low and just about the same as the other song

Then I tried the first song I played.... it's all fine... "Whatever you Like" by T.I.

All songs played in "Pro Logic II Music" and the movie was played in "Pro Logic II Movie"

I've used "Test" on the z-5500... all fine.

I'm using a Monster THX Optical Cable... 1meter...

I've tried using the analog cables that follow with the package... its the same (ProLogicII Music)

I am just wondering what can cause these symptoms of the Logitech z-5500

I'm most worried about the music and its changing quality...

EDIT:
6 Chan analog works fine... on both 5.1 movie and the songs...

But I'd prefer to use optical...>.>

Re: Z-5500 Sound Issues

Sorry, Im going to be of little help here, however this sounds very similar to the issue Im having and just posted about in detail (thread entitled Z5500 Digital Distortion with Dolby ). As well as only vocal distortion when using Dolby Movie or Dolby Music, the volume seems to go up and down too, which is increadibly infuriating. However, listening on Stereo x2 works perfectly and, like you, 6 channel Audio from the PC works fine.

Seems to be an issue with the dolby processing in the pod of some sort perhaps? Im just guessing of course but Im being driven mad too becuas eI can only watch telly in Stereo x2 rather than Dolby! :manmad:

The only thing I can suggest to you Helo, is check the front center speaker is hoooked up ok as this is where 99% of the vocals will come from. If your not getting any vocals at all, this is the place to start.

Re: Z-5500 Sound Issues

Hi,

It sounds like VLC, a software player, is not set up to properly send the optical signal to the Z-5500.

Thank you for your post.
