Z-5500 Very poor sound quality from the headphone jack

[ Edited ]

This system sounds fine when listening to it over the speakers. However, when I plug in my headphones to the control pod, I get very muddy highs, and no bass at all, much like an alarm clock.

I'm running an HD Omega Claro Plus+ sound card, using the optical output, to the control pod for the Z-5500, with a Monster optical cable. The headphones I'm using are Logitech Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5pro's. I tested the headphones with my ipod, and they're fully capable of producing bass, and clear highs.

Is this by design, or is my system broken?

Hi,

The headphones will not sound as good as the speakers when reproducing digital decoded sounds.
