Z-680 Control module not working

I have a Z-680 speaker system and have been very happy with it. However, lately I have been having an issue with a loud pop, and then the system shutting down. The first time this happened was about 6 months ago. I found that it would restart fine and function properly for a little bit and then do it again. I stopped using the optical cable and hence the Dolby Digital/DTS encoding and didn't have a probelm with it at all. A bit later, I tried the optical and Dolby digital/DTS system and had no problems at all for quite a while.  Well, about 2 weeks ago I had been using it for playing PS3 and movies, and I left it on overnight. I came out the next morning and the speaker system wouldn't power on at all. I could hear electricity flowing through the amp on the sub when I hit the power switch on the sub, but the small power indicator light on the control module wouldn't illuminate at all. I fiddled with it for a while, plugging and unplugging the system, checking the fuse on the back(which was fine) and doing standard checks. Finally after pulling the fuse out and flipping it around in the holder, the system started working again! I don't know if the fuse had anything to do with it, but something happened that caused it to kick back on. Well, 2 days ago, I was out of town and my brother was watching a movie when once again the system made a loud pop and completely shut down, never to restart. Once again, I can hear electricy going through the amp, but can't even get the power indicator light on the control module to come on. Anybody have any thing like this happen to them?

Re: Z-680 Control module not working

Hello,

i have a similar problem with my Logitech Z 680 speaker system. I turned on the system and then there were a loud plop. Since that moment i can hear a buzzing sound from the amp. This buzzing sound is louder than normal. In my case the blue light of the control module is on. I tested all input methods and run the test method for the speakers, but i cant hear any sound.

Re: Z-680 Control module not working

I'm having the same problem and it makes we want to toss the speakers out the window cause they scare the crap out of me.  The popping/turning off thing has gotten so constant I don't turn them on because I can be sure they'll do the same thing again.  My control pod is still working, it just keeps turning itself off when the things pops.  I bought these speakers used a year or two ago so they are not under warranty.  I am tempted to buy Creative T40s because I'm worried about spending alot of money of the Z-5500s and have them do the same thing.  How can I fix these 680s or should I jump ship and give up on Logitech speakers?  I've purchased so much Logitech stuff over my the course of my computer using years but I'm at wits end with the loud POP system off problem with the Z680. :smileysad:

Re: Z-680 Control module not working

I have recently been having the same problem... The speakers and pod turn on fine and after about 15 mins a loud pop and it all shuts down... After a few minutes I can turn the system back on by turning the master power off and back on after a minute and it will work for another few minutes until it does the same thing... I have checked the capacitors and the seem fine none are bulging on the amp. Have not checked the pod yet but I would like to fix this if possible... anyone with a similar issue have any ideas?
