Z205 stopped working

z205 installed on Viao laptop with Windows 7 Premium 64 bit has stopped working from USB port.  It works with direct connection from headphone connection on laptop and USB power.  I have tried all audio settings.  Suspect it is driver problem. Sony has a download for Audio drivers but I am nervous as that may lead to other problems.  Is there a simpler fix.

Re: Z205 stopped working

Hi fredsays,

The speaker uses Microsoft USB drivers, the audio drivers from Sony would be for the sound card where you would plug 3.5mm speakers or headphones in.

The best thing to do would be to narrow it down to a hardware or software issue, the easiest way to do this is test it on a second computer, if it has the problem there, it's likely a defect in the speakers, but if it works, that will narrow it down to software. From there you can do some other troubleshooting; first try the speaker on different USB ports, check to see if it's shown in Control Panel > Sounds and set as the Default Playback Device. If it's not listed there you can check the Device Manger (just type Device Manager into Windows Search) and see if there are any errors or problems. If you still can't get it to work the next steps would be to try something like a System Restore to a point when they were working, or a Windows Repair (takes around 15 minutes with a Windows CD or Recovery Partition), this will completely reinstall the Windows Audio drivers.

Thanks.

Hardware is ceratinly OK.  I think I'll try Windows Repair.
