Hi people, first time in here.. just wanted to pose a problem I've had after I had to reinstall Win7-64bit after the system image I had corrupted.
Before it would run fine on 6-ch input (stereo jacks) and play sound through all speakers as you'd expect. Now when I play surround sound in the same manner, it goes 2.1 on me.
The Realtek drivers are up-to-date, and all speakers individually test fine. The only way I've been able to get surround sound out of these speakers now is through the use of the digital optical audio cable, and even then it still doesn't sound right because some of the speakers are trying to push through too much bass instead of letting the sub do what it does.
I've been through every option I can think of with this, but I'm still really lost and need a bit of a hand out of this hole please.
I'm missing my really beefy bass from Skyrim that I had with the old 6-ch configuration.
Thanks in advance.

I see I'm not going to get an answer on here very quickly. I can't find a reasonable explanation for this, but I just want to hear someone who has had a similar issue with this and how / if they overcame it.

I find it fairly hard to believe that not many people have had this issue on a Logitech forum. Are you actually telling me that there's no one out there who can help me troubleshoot this one? Well.. you're not telling me much actually are you, I'm just here talking to myself. Thanks heaps for the "SUPPORT" guys, appreciate it. ![]()

Did you change your Speaker setup to be 5.1?
- Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers (click on the Configure button)
or
- Right Click on the speaker icon in your Start Bar -> Playback devices -> Speakers (click on the Configure button)
If Windows 7 doesn't know you're running 5.1, it's not going to use your other channels. And if that's not the case, and your speakers can still play 5.1 audio thru them, I don't know why it would just stick to 2 channels.

Finally someone wants to help!!
Done all that, still no solution.
I don't know why it's just going through 2 channels and the sub, but it's definitely doing it. I'm using Skyrim as my 'yardstick' here, the bass it used to push through on Skyrim's opening scene (the Bethesda logo with the cog) was insane, it felt like you were actually beating on a drum (and no it wasn't anything to do with how loud the volume was).
I can switch modes to either Stereo, Stereo x2, Dolby PLII Movie or Dolby PLII Music and the effects are there, but not in the same 'individual' quantities. It just has me a bit bewildered that if you put it on it's 6 Ch Direct setting that it dulls the sub (in that same Bethesda scene) and mostly uses stereo (Front left and right) speakers. It holds this setting throughout the game as well, I can't hear what's around me like I could normally before.
UPDATE: out of general curiosity, I went and got the 3 stereo jack lead again and plugged it back in. I tested all the speakers individually and no fault was found, I tried music and there was still something missing even though it would play through all channels. So I went fishing through the settings like I had done the last 3 or 4 times for something I might have missed, purely out of prior impatience. By right-clicking the Realtek HD Audio Manager and going into Audio Devices and in the Enhancements tab, I found that the checkbox for Bass Management was ticked, so I unticked it just for sh!ts and giggles. I tried the Skyrim opening scene and BOOM!! It was back to the way I remembered it! ![]()
It didn't really matter that I had Speaker Fill and Room Correction (rather clever) checked as I reckon these enhanced the sound qualities. So I'm happy with this result for now, I just hope that was the fix that was needed.

Well, switching modes to Stereo X2 will just force your front channel to be mirrored into your rear channel. When I stopped getting audio pumped thru one of my rear speakers, I turned on the other modes for my speakers, and the audio came out fine. Later I found out it was the audio wires from my soundcard to my speaker inputs. I replaced them with some cheap $2 wires for each channel and I got all my 5.1 audio back like it should. So depending on how long you've had your 5500, that's an issue that will probably creep up on you as well soon.
But that's cool that you fenagled (word of the day!) a way to get your audio working again.

I have easy access to my speaker wires but this setup is a bit more elaborate and complex than most, in that it has connecting wires going through the walls and roof of the room via three banana-connector wallplates to get the rears working without tripping on wires. So that should never be a problem.
