Z906 does not start

Hi,

I bought these Z906 speakers just a week ago. They were working fine for the last week. But since yesterday, they are acting weird.

They power off on their own after a few minutes. I have gone through this forum and have tried the reset procedure. After reset it works for a few minutes only to die again.

This is really frustrating. Logitech's most expensive speaker set is so lousy that most people are facing these problems. I guess Logitech just doesnt care and keeps sending such defective pieces to market.

Can some one help with a solution on this.

Re: Z906 does not start

Hi SSM30,

I'm afraid that you have a defective Control Pod.

It is sometimes inevitable to have a few unwanted results in the product line even if Logitech is strictly adherent in producing products with optimum quality and durability. Don't get me wrong, but Logitech does care.

Please contact Logitech Technical Phone Support for further assistance on this matter.

Re: Z906 does not start

Hi Giddie,

I had put a email request on 24th June for my faulty control pod of Z906. But these guys have not been able to solve it for last one month. You said Logitech cares. But your data doesnot support your claims.

Check the communication history below, they have not replied to my query for last 16 days now. This is really frustrating.

How can you change the status to "Solved" It is not yet solved. Its status of no response is indeed correct.
Customer Shreyas {Personal content removed for your safety} via CSS Web07/23/2012 06:13 AM
Its been a month since I raised this fault. It is really frustrating that the speakers are lying idle in my living room for last one full month. I thought Logitech cares and will replace this within a week. But a month and still no sight of solution is really bad service. I would have taken the entire set for repairs, if I was assured that replacement was available. But you are also not assuring me that.

Is there any issue with Logitech India? You have 5 authorized resellers in India, cant even one of them repair it. I do not understand the rationale for resellers insisting that they will service products only imported by them. Can you help me, or should let me know the details of your superior to whom I can talk/ email to.

And I am not going to buy any Logitech equipment in future. That is final irrespective of how this problem is now treated. I have lost faith in Logitech.

Dear Joe,

Any updates man! This is testing my levels of patience now.. How much more time do you require for a simple replacement and that too in Warranty and when its your fault you shipped a bad product..

Dear Joe,

I can not believe this. I thought all this time DK would have find a
solution to this problem. Else, even after 10 days, you are just repeating
what DK has said. I had said in my earlier mail what difficulties I am
facing.

For repetition here they are

"Based on your recommendation, I asked two of the distributors regarding
> the same.
>
> Rashi Peripherals which is located in my town stated that they repair/
> replace only those speakers that they have imported and not of everyone.
> Savex Computers which is located about 25km from my town asked me to get
> the entire set (15kgs of it) to their shop. However, they have asked me to
> keep the speakers with them and take replacement after 7 - 10 days.
> However, your notice clearly stated not to leave the device to the store
if
> in any case they tell you that your replacement unit is not yet available.
> Just get back to them on the specified availability date of your
> replacement unit. "
>
> Please advise."

See, this was about 15 days back, after which DK said, let me see what I
can do and took my contact address and phone number. But never replied.

Can you tell me solution to this. My set is broken. But I dont want to
carry along the Subwoofer and rest of speakers to service centre when only
the control pod is broken. Cant it be only replaced. If I have to carry
whole set, Can't I get them to Rashi which is in my town.

Please suggest and now please give final advise else I am not going to buy
any product from Logitech ever due to 1st - bad quality 2nd - poor customer
service.

Dear Shreyas {Personal content removed for your safety},

For this case, it is safe to conclude that your device is faulty, and needs to be replaced if still under the warranty. Please visit any of our distributors near your area to get a replacement/refund.

Logitech Distributors:

Neoteric Infomatique Limited
Rashi Peripherals Privet Limited
Savex Computers Ltd
Ingram Micro India Limited

Just bring your faulty device together with your invoice/receipt to the store, and provide them this reference/incident number {Personal content removed for your safety}.

IMPORTANT:

Do not leave your device to the store if in any case they tell you that your replacement unit is not yet available. Just get back to them on the specified availability date of your replacement unit.
Your device is subject for further testing and troubleshooting at the store before they replace it.

> Hi DK,

I understand that the pin provided is a bit thin and has issues with
connection. To ensure that it is not just an connection issue, I have tried
three different power outlets in my home, but the speakers do not start.
About 2 weeks back, they started behaving weird and used to stop after 5 -
10 mins of playback. Disconnecting all wires and letting it rest for a
night resolved this problem and speakers used to start in the morning. Just
a week back they have given up completely and even this procedure doesnt
seem to work. I am sure they are drawing power. Can you suggest some other
way to reset these speakers or to check if Control Pod is working ok? Else
suggest suitable solution.
Regards,
Shreyas

I have purchased Logitech Z906 speakers not even a month back. However, they have suddenly stopped working. Pressing the power button has no effect and it does not start.
Please suggest a remedy. This is very frustrating as the most expensive speaker sets of Logitech have given up in less than a month.

Re: Z906 does not start

Logitech has come up with a lemon with the Z906 speaker system. sounds great when its going but random power of and unable to power on again.

Seems a lot of people are having this same issue.

If you are having this issue there is some good news Logitech support is very good. you will need to send the whole system back to logitech and they will send you a complete replacement. One that will not have a repeat of this issue I hope.

Not good for such a respectable Hardware manufature to be having such a serious issue with with this system as All my other devices are Logitech and work fine I might add that I have only ever purchased Logitech hardware.

Seems that this issue will be Logitech's downfall as a respected brand name at least for me. My faith will be renewed if Logitech can solve this issue with a replacement system. A system that keeps going for at least 5 years. not 5 days.

I look forward to updating this thread with a positive on going update.

stay tuned

Regards

Re: Z906 does not start

There are 4 reasons for that this set doesn't start. Of course if loss of AC power is excluded.

1.
Broken control pod and more specifically software / program in main IC that controls whole set. It can be reprogrammed by that small PIN connector on bottom of control pod.

2.
Shorted or burned amplifier IC's. There are two TAS5162 class-d amps that powers speakers. One gets shorted and whole set will not start correct functioning.
Put your ear to back of subwoofer. You should hear a continously clicking sound. PSU detects shorts on it's output and it shuts down.

3.
Problem with correct amp start-up sequence. Protection turns on and shuts down PSU.

4.
Burned PSU.

If speakers shuts down while working look at point 3. This time protection detects overheating, over or under voltage, shorted output of amps. This leads to reset and shut down.
