[iMac-Problems]

Can someone help me with the information on how to set up the z906 surround sound to my iMac, I've had no help from the operater and I've been told by bestbuy geek squad i need an external sound card for the 6-channel direct input anolog cord. The booklet gives no information for the apple product, could you please explain how i need to set this up.

Hello iMac-Problems,

You will need an external USB 5.1 channel sound card to get surround sound from your iMac in your Z906 speakers. This is due to Macs not having the proper hardware for an analog surround sound connection.

On my iMac I use Creative X-Fi 5.1 Surround USB.

The Creative only supports windows, but it does work decent on Mac.

Only thing you loose out are:

Volume Dial doesn't work, but then, you will be using one on z906 anyhow.

Audio-In doesn't work, blah.

Only run as USB 1.1. No real issue unless you really want that 24bit/96kHz sound.

The one I have is older non-pro version, if you get the pro version, do let me know how it works.

Did you find a solution?  I have the same set up as you.  My speaker system is from an older PC that I want to hook up to my new IMac

Dunno if this has been covered before, but apart from the digital audio output, your options are limited. Either an analog splitter or an external box that works with your iMac, such as the HD audio rush, but nothing that I know of is guaranteed to work with your iMac, sorry to say.

I just got myself the X-Fi Pro I mentioned earlier.

It work just like the old one. Good OS X surround box, and works real well with BootCamp too.
