I have an X-530. I guess that's like the X-540 except it's from Walmart. I'm trying to hook it up a an acer aspire 5536 which has two interesting looking jacks on the left side, The black one is the headphone jack. The blue one has a dot with four curves expanding out on either side.

 My Speakers on my Playback Devvices are a Realtek High Definition Audio. The Jack Information says "L R ATAPI Internal ATAPI Jack" probably for the speakers on the rear strip of the inside panel of the laptop. It also says "L R Left panel 3.5 mm Jack." Both statements have large black dots before the information after the "L R."On the Customn tab, it has a check box for limited output. On the LKevels tab, it has Realtek HD Audio output, PC Beep, Microphone, Line In, and Center Volume Levels. The Enhancement tab has Disable all sound effects, immediate mode, environment, voice cancellation, pitch shift, equalizer, and loudness equalization. On the Dolby tab is has Audio Enhancer and Surround Sound after checkmark boxes."Enabling Surround Sound activates a personal surround sound experience using any set of headphones, while improving long-term listening comfort." And Advanced tab gives me options from 16bit, 44100KHz(CD Quality) to 24bit, 192000(Studio Quality), and a test button. There's also Allow Applications to take exclusive control oft his device, and Give exclusive mode applications priority, which sound useful.

The next device is Realtek Digital Output with "L R Left Panel Optical Jack" with a big black dot, a supported formats tab with DTS Audio, Dolby Digital, and Microsoft WMA Pro Audio, with a test button.This tab also has 44.1KHz to 192KHz sample rates and another test button.On the Levels tab there's Realtek Digital Output and its volume level. On the Dolby tab, the Surround Sound checkmark box is greyed out. The Advance tab is the same as the other Advanced tab, except it sperates "2 channel" that you saw in the first Advanced Tab, read above, and "Dolby Digital Live (5.1 Surround)" as an addition the list in this tab. I think this is output for recordings.

How can I hook up my x-530 through either or both of these jacks? There's a green, black, and orange jack, green for front, orange for I think the subwoofer, and black for rear and center speakers. These jacks are hooked up to the left speaker, which has a cable going into the subwoofer in which all the other speakers hook into. The orange, green, and black jack can go into a 3->2(Red/White) adapter. What is this? Is it possible to use this to get full surround on this laptop that states that it does surround sound on headphones? There's also a headphone jack on the right speaker.

Hi,

You cannot get true surround sound from this speaker system with out a 5.1 analog sound card. That means you need a sound card hat has green, black and orange outs from the sound card to connect to the inputs on the speakers.

Green front, black rear, orange center sub.

The X-530 comes with a game console adapter for use with devices that have red/white RCA audio out.

From what I can tell, your laptop has Optical digital out. If this were connected to a Z-5500 for example, via optical cable, you would get true surround sound.

Hey, i am trying to get true surround sound on my x-530 speakers through my laptop too. I have an ASUS G51j-x can anyone tell me the cheapest way to get true surround from the logitech x-530 speakers and my ASUS G51J-x.

hi new to the forum and i may have your answer,

im trying to do the same thing with the same system like many thousands of people are across the world, on a  laptop you CANNOT get TRUE 5.1 surround because of the fact it doesnt have the correct inputs, on a PC however with the correct sound card it will, the way im thinking of doing it is this;

having a VGA splitter connected to the Bass speaker through the VGA port

one side connects from the control speaker (AKA front right speaker)

other sides connects to a VGA to VGA cable going to the surround sound card in the PC

once thats happened connecting the 3 relevent coloured 3.5mm jacks into the right colour on the sound card
