Re: z-5450 rear speaker troubleshooting

Can anyone confirm the value of L2 as 3.3uH ?

In my hurry to replace the offending capacitors, I shoved the adjacent resistor out of the way to make room, only to discover it's actually a far more delicate inductor. Snap! :smileysurprised:

Can anyone confirm: orange, orange, gold, silver? (3.3uH)

I make it 3.3uH but the colours are difficult to read. Looks like it has been running hot. It might be red, brown?

Thanks,

Steve.

Re: z-5450 rear speaker troubleshooting

so, i followed the advice of excellently helpful thread, replaced the capacitors, and immediately the blue light started blinking.

in fixing it though, i accidentally tore the antenna off, and despite resoldering it seemingly in place, now having weird data loss problems. the capacitor issue seems absolutely fixed, but the speaker can't maintain a signal now. even more weirdly, it cuts off immediately when i turn the back left speaker on, as if they can't both be on at the same time without a conflict. i'll make a separate thread for this too, but just wondering if you clever folk have any advice in the meantime. thanks!

To SuperHerman:

Yuu wrote: "Hi, Transistor Q1 has the Label 2x in my speakers, this seems to be a 2n4401 standard NPN Transistor. It should be possible to replace it with almost any standard NPN with similar ratings. The Power Amplifier is a class-D type. Number: TDA8922bth Greeting"

How do you know that it is TDA8922BTH? Have you got a schematic diagram? I need one badly. Cause my Z-5450 turns off always after 10-15 sec. I can fix it on my own but I need a diagram or service manual.

Re: z-5450 rear speaker troubleshooting

Today I disasembled the unit and found out that the power amplifiers are TDA7296 not TDA8922BTH.
Those are in other model of speaker system.

Re: z-5450 rear speaker troubleshooting

hamishi,

THANK YOU for the how to!  My rear left speaker started flashing the dreaded blinking red LED of death a few months ago and I thought it was toast.  I did a quick google search for the issue and came across this forum.  I replaced the two 10v capacitors with 100uF 35v ones and it did the trick!  I was beyond THRILLED to see my solid blue light again upon powering it up!  THANK YOU again!

On a side note: what a freaking pain it was to open the speaker!  So much glue!  WOW!  You need a TON of patience to get that bad boy apart!  Also, I had absolutely ZERO experience with soldering to a PCB so I also did a how to search on google for that as well!  After some trial and error I was confident enough to have a go on the unit and got it on the 1st try!  BOOM!  My Z-5450's are still in tip top shape after 7 years!  Good thing, too since they're no longer in production!  If I come across another blinking red LED, I'll know what to do!  MAJOR PROPS, hamishi........2.5 years after you posted that fix people are still benefiting!

Cheers,

Re: z-5450 rear speaker troubleshooting

Jedla, you should consider having a go fixing it yourself because I'm not sure you'll have much luck finding this exact speaker as a replacement.  You'll be surprised what 2 little capacitors can do!  Hamishi provided all the info you'll need to know and there's also a picture a few pages earlier of the exact ones to replace.  Good luck!
