Alarming issue with Squeezebox Boom Alarms

I just got the Squeezebox Boom a few days ago, and thought I was in Wifi Clock Radio heaven.

Then I tried to wake up at 9:20am today.

I had one simple alarm set to play the (built-in?) Ambulance sound effect.

It went off and woke me up.  I pressed Power to turn it off, and the alarm stopped.  I then got out of bed, and about 1 minute later heard the alarm going again!

I did more tests, and on my unit the alarm goes off again 1 minute after being turned off.  I've tried turning it off with Power and also with Pause (which says "Alarm Stopped" on the display) but the alarm goes off again in a minute.
What's going on?  How do I turn off the alarm? Is this a known issue?

(I assume I could press power and then power again and then scroll to Alarm Clock and then press the wheel and then press the wheel again and then wait 1 minute to make sure the alarms are really off and then navigate to Alarm Clock again then turn Alarms On again... but I assume there was an easier way to turn off an alarm clock!)

Re: Alarming issue with Squeezebox Boom Alarms

there's a setting for duration I believe. I wake to an internet radio music stream and I've set it to play for 60 minutes and then go off. You can set this 60 minutes to something shorter.  I can't recall, but there may be other ways to simply turn off the alarm without going through the menu. I suspect most people are using either their own music or a radio stream, thus the need to turn off immediately (like a buzzer alarm clock) is not typical use.

Re: Alarming issue with Squeezebox Boom Alarms

After doing more tests, I've discovered the following:

- the setting I have for the screensaver was not the problem.  changing it back to original setting did not solve the problem
- the Alarm Timeout setting similarly is not causing the problem
- the Snooze minutes time is not part of the problem as I am not using snooze, just trying to turn off the alarm after it goes off
- the problem does not happen when the alarm sound is an internet radio station... only when it it is a built-in musical sound/sound effect
- the problem does not happen after the first time it happens (ie. the alarm goes off.  I press power to turn alarm off. one minute later the alarm goes off again.  when I press power again to turn it off, it will not go off yet again one minute later)

So I'm still stumped.  BUT... I've found a very simple workaround which basically solves the issue for me. If, when the alarm is going off, I press Snooze and then press Power, it goes off and stays off.

I hope there will be future firmware updates that improve the functionality and stability of the Alarm Clock.

Re: Alarming issue with Squeezebox Boom Alarms

Squeezebox radio alarm issues are being reported on a few sites- I have been advised that this is a priorty  for the enginners, wait for the next firmware update

If that happens relatively soon, that would be great.

Re: Alarming issue with Squeezebox Boom Alarms

The issue is that the SB Radio is not a WiFi Clock Radio. It is a Network Media Player with a feature of an alarm.

Currently if one HAS to be awakened, I strongly suggest having SBS running on a PC or Server if one is going to use the alarm feature on the SB Radio. The just released Firmware R9009 is supposed to help but I feel its just the first step in the right direction and not the full cure.

I ran a dedicated SBS Music Server and my Boom does not fail to wake me. On a side note, if one absolutely has to be awakened, always set a second alarm on the SB Radio.

Re: Alarming issue with Squeezebox Boom Alarms

That's great and all, but my issue in this thread is with the Squeezebox Boom.

Re: Alarming issue with Squeezebox Boom Alarms

oh yeah. Sorry. But I'm out of ideas. My boom alarms are rock solid for two years, but I'm using it very differently. I wake to internet radio, and it turns itself off after 60 minutes without me doing anything. As I mentioned earlier, this duration is adjustable in the settings.

Re: Alarming issue with Squeezebox Boom Alarms

I have the alarm repeating issue using the "ambulance" wake up sound.  The "power off, then snooze button" routine didn't work for me.  This may be due to my leaving the radio playing all night and it's already on when the alarm goes off.  (I have tinnitus and need the radio on all night drown out my ear ringing noise.)

What does work is unchecking the "Repeat Alarm" box.  Then, when the alarm goes off I hit the power button and, when the radio powers up again automatically, I go to the current alarm setting and turn "On" the alarm, then power down.  The repeat alarm doesn't occur after this.  It's an extra couple of steps, but it doesn't take much time.  Note that the "Alarm On" condition reverts to "Alarm Off" after the alarm sounds when the "Repeat Alarm" is off.

I hope Logitech corrects this repeat alarm problem soon.  It shouldn't be that tough to fix in the software.
