BBC radio timeout?

Hey there,
I've tried searching for several hours for answers to this, but with no success.

I'm running a Squeezebox Duet, with the BBC app installed, software 7.7.1. Over the last month or so, BBC World Service and BBC Radio 7 (relaunched a couple of months ago as BBC Radio 4 Extra) have not worked at all, getting a 'wrong url' error.

More pressingly, though, BBC Radio today appears to be completely offline - I'm getting time out errors regardless of how I try to connect (through internet radio, the app, etc).
I can't find anything on the BBC's website about it; any word from the Squeezebox side?

Thanks

OK, so the urls are wrong, and one (admittedly poor) workaround is to manually type in the urls in mysb and add them as favourites (poor because they appear in the favourites as the full urls, and because they lack the program info of the Internet Radio option).

Can I change the urls to which the internet radio list entries point - and how?

As things stand, about 70% of the use of my SB is for listening to the BBC; if it can't give me that, its value is fairly marginal...

Thanks for the help!

This is a mysqueezebox.com  problem - the use of mms URLs is a workaround until Logitech fixes the problem although the source of the problem is not clear - it could be a BBC change.    It is NOT the original issue I identified in the thread referenced above although it has similar symptoms and similar solution.

I tested a SB3 connected to mysb.com from Ireland to the EU West datacentre.

1. The BBC Radio App - stations do not play - this used to work.

2. The offical BBC Radio 4 URL (ending with .asx)  - do not work.

3. Playing Radio 4 from the Tune-in App from Web Remote control  - does not work.

4. Creating a Favorites using a mms URL from the BBC Radio 4 URL (ending with .asx) - plays OK.

The handling of the ASX playlist URL is at fault within mysb.com.  This may have a geo-ip issues.

A similar problem has affected a number of US users with US stations so I think there is something more fundamental has gone wrong.

I'm Also suffering from this so as a temporary fix for me could you elaborate as to how to find the bbc urls that DO work in favourites ie those referred to above

Re: BBC radio timeout?

Hello everyone,

I have forwarded this to our Product specialist. It is probably due to BBC changing their streams to AAC format and the API that our App interacts with may not have been updated yet.

You should be able to go through "Internet Radio" and play the BBC channels from there directly. If you have an older player (Classic, Boom, Duet, Transporter) you may need to use the Logitech Media server as these players do not support AAC format streams.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

It has nothing to do with the BBC and AAC formatr.  This is playing WMA stream from a ASX playlist which hasn;t changed.  If you read my poist the only way to get it working was by NOT using the internet radio menu but my adding own non UK URL.

The problem is mysb.,com delivering UK URL to the player which is not in the UK.  The log from a Touch can be seen clearly in my post at this URL

I am giving people other options to do this as this forums is not just for people in the US. And it does have to do with switching formats for people who are using older players as it works fine on the Logitech Squeezebox Radio and the Touches here when just going through internet radio and not the App and connected to mysqueezebox.com. It was down on BBC's end over the weekend as that was when they were doing the changes.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

I am in Ireland the problem occurs both on my SB3 and my Touch.  They do not play the BBC ASX playlist for any of the radio stations.  The problem is clear as I have included the log from a Touch in the post I referenced.

When the BBC ASX playlist is setup as a Favorite on  mysb.com (and this is the same as the BBC Radio App) - the mysb.com get URLs from the BBC and passes them to Touch/SB3 to play.  The mysb.com server is passing a UK only URL to my player which arfe not based in the UK and so the BBC refuses to play the URL.  The problem is in mysb.com as it is acting as if it my players are based in the UK whereas they are based outside the UK.  This used to work before the outage.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

Well We are in the US here. If I go to Internet Radio and search "bbc" and it will search all the BBC channel. If you go this way on the Touch which station are you looking at playing? I am playing the world service right now fine. There are over 25 channels, so if I know which one you are trying to play it may sort this issue out a bit easier.
