Re: BBC radio timeout?

Interesting.  On a Touch connected to mysqueezebox.com EU West datacentre.

Playing BBC stations from the Internet Radio "Search"  -play OK.

Playing BBC station from Tune-in App under My Apps - do not play - search returns same numbers of stations as "Internet Radio" search .

Playing BBC stations from the "BBC radio App" under My Apps installed from App gallery - none of the statiosn played.

It looks like there is something broken in mysqueezebox.com as all three used to work.  Some users in Germany and Australia also seems to have this problem.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

I have reported about the BBC app, but have not heard anything back yet. I will add the Tune In app to that as well. For now just go through Internet radio.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

[ Edited ]

The reason why the "internet Radio" search play BBC station OK on Touch and the other 2 methods fail is because the Search returns the AAC stream which Touch can play whereas the other methods returns a WMA stream and all the BBC WMA streams fail to play.

The "internet Radio" search for BBC fails on an SB3 as it tries to play the WMA stream as SB3 does not support AAC.

This means this problem results in all users of SB2, SB3, Boom, Classic and Transporter players cannot play BBC streams using mysqueezebox.com unless they create a favotite with the specific BBC WMA URL

So the precise problem definition is that mysqeezebox.com deliver the wrong WMA URLs when using the BBC ASX playlist.  It is mixing up UK and NON UK URLS in howwever way it fakes where the player is based.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

Using Internet Radio does not work for SB3 and Boom so it is not a solution.

You would need to use the Logitech Media server and it will transcode it just like other AAC streams as stated in my original post on this thread.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

You are missing the point. The issue is a problem with mysqueezebox.com - using a local LMS server defeats the purpose.  Using a local LMS server means the proper BBC WMA streams can be played - a local LMS server does not have this problem - the BBC Radio App and Tunein App work OK on a local LMS server.

I am trying to articulate the problem reported by many users on the forums.slimdevices.com forum who do not have or wish to use a local LMS server.  I have provided those users with a mysqueezebox.com workaround by creating a Favorite with the correct BBC WMA URL - all the affected users want is Logitech to fix mysqueezebox.com to behave like last week.

I am trying to help you correct the fault by defining the problem completely.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

[ Edited ]

Using the 'Internet Radio' menu I have continual problems in the UK with playing BBC 'recent episodes' (found through the TuneIn Radio Options track info menu - 'See complete schedule|Relevant show|Recent episodes).

Frequently the player will come up with the message '403 Forbidden'. Try again and it may work. Or it may not.

The cause, I think, is that the TuneIn Radio options menu is randomly (?) providing international only BBC streams, when it should always be providing UK BBC streams. These appear to be Windows Media streams, not AAC.

For avoidance of doubt, this is using my local LMS server. It has entries in its log as follows:

[12-03-07 21:42:03.7572] Slim::Utils::Scanner::Remote::__ANON__ (240) Error: Can't connect to remote server to retrieve playlist for, http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/4/asx/b01cqwvx/iplayer_intl_stream_wma_lo_concrete: 403 Forbidden.
[12-03-07 21:42:03.7763] Slim::Plugin::InternetRadio::Plugin::cantOpen (431) Reporting stream failure to RadioTime: http://opml.radiotime.com/Report.ashx?c=stream&partnerId=16&id=t37435794&message=403%20Forbidden
[12-03-07 21:42:04.5270] Slim::Plugin::InternetRadio::Plugin::__ANON__ (435) RadioTime failure report OK

The live streams are playing OK - these are AAC. The problem exists on both Squeezebox Radio and Classic.

Perhaps you could report this as well. 'Internet Radio' remains faulty, even in the UK.

My experience of the Tunein app is that it restricts itself to returning Windows Media or MP3 streams, and never delivers up AAC streams. This is in contrast to the Internet Radio menu, which does deliver the AAC streams. That may throw some light on some of BPA's findings, as it seems to be the BBC WMA streams that are causing difficulty.

Re: BBC radio timeout?

Hello mw99,

Are you using the App or just Internet Radio? When I search shows for BBC then recent episodes they play. Does it work fine when you switch to mysqueezebox.com at least on the Squeezebox Radio?

Re: BBC radio timeout?

[ Edited ]

I'm using Internet Radio. (I don't use the App for reasons alluded to. The 'only' item it has, that Internet Radio doesn't have, is access to RT presets - perhaps they could be moved to Internet Radio ?).

It is worth remarking that some shows are MP3 (probably podcasts), and some are WIndows Media.

I don't seem to have a problem with the MP3 shows, just the ones that are WMA.

A specific WMA example: BBC Radio 4 - See complete schedule - Women's Hour Drama

I've just tried mysqueezebox.com with the Radio. After waiting for a few moments, because it started out by telling me that I had no local stations (!), I tried the same shows. On the three/four occasions that I tried, they did play without any '403 Forbidden' message. Although I must say that I had to wait quite a number of seconds before playback started. But I don't use mysqueezebox.com regularly, perhaps it was just lucky chance.

I generally get much better response using my local LMS (well, before the '403's started to get in the way). That is where my music library is, so I tend to stick to it, other than odd occasions when I need to repurpose the computer LMS runs on.
