BBC

I have a Squeezebox Boom Radio and which has worked well for the past year. I’m using the Internet Radio, ie. listening without the computer being turned on. However, for the past week BBC channels do not work. All other radio channels work fine, but none of the BBC channels. They do work when connecting to the media server, but not the Internet. As it worked before; what’s happened? What’s the solution? Rgs - Lacwel

Re: BBC

Hello lacwel,

This is due to a change that BBC made a little bit ago where they have switched their streams to an AAC format. This is only supported on the Logitech Squeezebox Radio and Squeezebox Touch. To listen to these stations now you will need to connect to the Logitech Media server so that it can decode the station.

Re: BBC

Hi Cat,

So does that mean BBC radio will only work if LMS is switched on (running a Duet here)? Kinda unfortunate...

Re: BBC

If BBC does indeed change all of their streams to AAC, then yes you will need LMS running to play BBC on a Duet.

Re: BBC

The AAC issue is a red herring. The problem is not due to BBC changing AAC format - they have been offering AAC and WMA in parallel without change for the last 3 years.  The only recent change is that for non UK users better quality AAC has been offered without change to URLs.

The current issue is a logitech / BBC geo ip one due to the fact that Logitech mysqueezebox.com server may not be based in the same country as the user's player.   The WMA playlist return specific UK/non-UK WMA URLs whereas AAC only have location independent URLs and the BBC server determines the quality.   Logitech fake the country of origin to ensure the correct WMA URLs.  It looks like Logitech have recently broken the faking mechanism ( I suspect due to change in underlying mysqueezebox.com server providers)  and now only the AAC URLs work as they are not affected by geoip issue.

Re: BBC

Could I ask for the 'non-experts': LMS is Logitech Media server??

Which is a media player like i-tunes???

And that means I can now only listen to BBC4 my switching on my computer as well? Where would be the point in that??

I bought the Squeezebox Boom to play radio without switching on the computer. And, with regard to the IP: I am listening in Spain and the live stream on the computer is fine, so it can't have to do with the location alone.

You still can listen but you have to go around the Mysqueezebox.com problem.

As a workaround until Logitech fixes the problem. Assuming you are not in the UK then create a mysqueezebox.com Favorite with the following URL and then play it from the Favorites menu.

mms://wmlive-nonacl.bbc.net.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio4/radio4_bb_live_int_ep1_sl0

Playing this mysqueezebox.com Favorite should WMA Radio 4.

Re: BBC

A fix has been made so that the BBC Radio App should now be working again.

Hello bpa2,

The BBC App is not working yet (at least for US/Canada residents as I can only test where I am located), but our engineers are looking into the issue with BBC after BBC made a change with restricting people outside the UK for our App.

Re: BBC

The bug report summarises the status http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=17923

I have been doing the testing with your engineers confirming the fix.  The updated Radio App is working  on EU West  and the bug report indicated that is being rolled out.

The fix only deal with the Radio App - a wider fix (Internet Radio Search) would need help from BBC and possibly hosting services.
