Re: Can't get Touch to finish scanning external USB drive

I have a SB3 at home and a Duet (but my SBR crapped out so no I just use the remote for the SB3). They are connected to a FreeNAS server running SlimNAS. I wish I had the option here of doing that. Maybe I'll see if I can convince IT to let me build a server and run it on the network. I really like the SBT form factor.

I'll try your plan with removing everything I can from the drive and then slowly adding back to it and see if that helps.

Another thing, during the scan does it scan in alphabetical order? So folder by folder then digging down into each folder? It seems to give up about 16,000 of 21,000 files.

Ok, deleted a bunch of stuff of the drive including artwork larger than 400x400. It makes it through the scan for files, but crashes now on processing of the artwork.

Re: Can't get Touch to finish scanning external USB drive

Ok, deleted all of the artwork and rescanning. I wonder if someone has a script to search for not music files, delete them and then fix the album art size too. The device seams to be super picky with what it's given.

Re: Can't get Touch to finish scanning external USB drive

So, an update. With this thing on a wired network it can complete the scan. Though, performance is abysmal once the scan is completed. It takes more than 15 seconds to play any song from the hard drive (same with USB flash). When on wireless (even with signal above 80%) it disconnects frequently and is causing much of the problems.

So, what I've learned so far

  1. You can't use your regular SB library with the touch
  2. It doesn't work over wifi
  3. performance on USB hdd is slow
I really like the look and styling of the box and if it worked I'd like it even better. I've messed with it for almost 2 weeks now and it's just finally playing some music (albeit, very slowly). All in all, my opinion of this device is in the toilet.

Re: Can't get Touch to finish scanning external USB drive

something is clearly wrong with your touch. you might want to return it or at least call support. I use SbS with my touches, so don't use the internal "tiny" SbS. But my brother uses the Touch, wifi about 70% strength, attached  USB drive, and scanning 50,000 tracks, with artwork, works relatively quickly ( a few hours). Playback is essentially instant.  So again, I recommend seeking additional help on this.

Re: Can't get Touch to finish scanning external USB drive

I've pretty much given up on the device with the built in server. I brought it home and tested on my network connected to my regular SBS and it worked fine. I ended up building another SBS box and brought that to work and just keep it in my desk. I'll give it a few more days of running to see how the Touch goes, but all in all it's been a terrible experience. Logitech support has tried to help, but they are about 12 hours off so it takes an entire day to iterate a single question with them.
