I bought a squeezebox duet last summer and the screen failed on the remote a few months later. I was sent a replacment but the large circular navigation button is now non-functioning.
I've now emailed Logitech support over the last week and had zero replies. Is this normal??

Have you factory reset the controller and tested it again? Do you still have the original receipt with the date of purchase? If the controller hardware is defective you may be eligible for a warranty replacement if your proof of purchase shows you are within the Duet's 2 year warranty period.
