Need to Assign Static IP (actually DNS server) to my Squeezebox radio

According to the "manual", after I turned off DCHP on my router, I should receive an Address Problem screen on the Squeezebox where I can enter IP, Gateway, DNS manually.  I have tried over and over again, but I can never get the Address Problem screen.  I have tried with wireless and ethernet.  The wireless fails completely and the ethernet receives some junk addresses that I know are not going to work, but it doesn't allow me to enter a static address.  I had the exact same problem with a Sony BD player.  Everything connects to the network, but NOT to the internet.  The solution is actually super simple.  All you have to do is assign the DNS server properly based on you internet provider.  Or even use google's public DNS servers, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.  This will allow a connection to the internet.

Please provide me with a reliable method to do something some simple on a device that relies on a network.  I find it hard to believe that this is not easier to do on this device.

Thank you.

If working properly you should be able to enter the network info.  Turn off DHCP on router, reboot router, factory reset player, setup networking on player, when it fails it should offer to allow manual entry.

Agree. Not sure what you mean by "problem screen". When DHCP setting in router is OFF, when setting up RADIO, it will look for an IP address provided by DHCP, and failing to see this, the screen will offer up the option to manually enter your IP address (and gateway, DNS, etc.).  I recall you may have to scroll down on this screen to see this "manual" option.  But I can confirm that it does work, as I've setup all my radios, touch, controller with fixed IP addresses in this manner.
