I just picked up a Squeezebox Classic second hand (excelent condition) and have it connected to my wifi network and macbook. I seem to have issues often where it will start to play and then freeze, take forever to buffer, play a few seconds and stop to buffer again. Sometimes if I unplug it I can reset it and have it work properly but sometimes I unplug it and it can't re-connect to my network. I love it when it works but seems really temperamental, any help for a new owner would be much appreciated.
fyi - I have this problem mostly with my iTunes library which is a combo of AAC 256, AAC 320, and ALAC. So far Pandora has been fine.

how many wireless hops do you have? That is, do you have your macbook connected via ethernet to your router and only your SB player is wifi (one hop). Or are both your Macbook and SB player wifi (two hops). This is a challenge in all but the best wifi networks. Because the song file is streamed from macbook to your router, then from your router to the SB player. This is likely why pandora is ok, because once Squeezeboxsesrver makes the connection for you, I believe that Pandora would be coming from the internet to your router then straight to your SB player (one wifi hop).
Just as a test, wire your macbook to router and play songs and see if you get buffering. If this solves it, you know that the double hop is the problem. then you can either wire one permanently or figure out a way to improve your Wifi network.
p.s. the use of music streaming and SB player can put a strain on a wifi network that was never noticeable with the simple use of a laptop conneced via wifi for websurfing and email.
