I was given a Squeezebox Classic by a friend which worked perfectly fine until a few days ago - now it won't connect to my router.
It says connecting to wireless network ... then the screen goes blank and eventually says cannot connect to wireless network.
I've factory reset it several times, set up the wireless network inputting all the relevant details. Connected it with an ethernet cable and set it up that way - can connect to MySqueezebox and Squeezebox Media Server but it won't connect wifi.
My laptop connects to the router (I'm in Turkey they call a router here a modem) wirelessly but not the SB classic.
Anyone have a clue?? I wonder if the wireless card inside has died and gone to Logitech heaven.
Cheers
Suzan

It is possible the WiFi card is bad or has become loose. You can take the SB3 apart, remove the card, re-install it.
Are you certain it is trying to connect to your WiFi? Is your WiFi network name (SSID) unique to only you? No other WiFi's around you using the same name? Tried without any encryption or any security settings on the router?

I'm the only one using the router and on the network so SSID is unique to me.
I've tried without encryption or any other security settings and just about everything I can think of. It connects with the ethernet cable to SB and MySB on the internet.but as soon as I unplug the cable I get the cannot connect error message.
Just had a look at the wifi card and it seems to be sited fine - not loose. Everything else inside looks fine too.
Can connect to MySB with ethernet cable but not to SB media server even when entering the correct IP address.
Still can't connect wifi.
Do you think the card had died?

Could be a dead WiFi card, yes. I'd try, if possible, to connect it to any other WiFi. Friend? Relative? Neighbor?
To be clear, just because you are the only one using your network does not make your SSID "unique". A typical SSID will be the manufacturers name, like Linksys. A unique SSID name is one that you specifically gave it and cannot be mistaken for any other network. Like "Suzan's WiFi".
The problem is that if your WiFi is called Linksys and there is a nearby WiFi also called Linksys, your SB3 may be trying to connect to the incorrect WiFi. WiFi devices can only differentiate between WiFi's by the WiFi name (SSID).

I live in a small town in south west Turkey and there are no other WiFi connections nearby.
SB had been working fine then one day I switched it on and it wouldn't connect. The power in Turkey is pretty bumpy and we do have a lot of power outages so wonder if that's blown something. Routers (modems) usually only last a couple of years before they get blown up.
Having said that when I'm not using it I unplug it.
You think its worth trying to get a new card or a new unit?
Thanks for your help so far
Suzan

Without being able to test it further over WiFi I guess replacement is about it. ![]()
Another option would be to use Powerline adapters which uses your homes electric wiring as a wired ethernet connection.
SB3 wired to adapter 1, network signal over electric wires to adapter 2, adapter 2 wired to router
However, there are potential issues with these devices:
- dirty power can introduce audible anomalies
- power spikes can damage the ethernet port
- SB3 and the router must be on the same electric circuit (in the US most homes have 2 or more circuits)

Hmm looks like its died.
I wouldn't connect it to the power circuits here in Turkey the lights dim and flicker all the time. Capacitors on tube lights get fried all the time.
Thanks for your help anyways.
I can still connect to mySB if I use an ethernet cable so may have to do that in the meantime.

Make sure the SB3 and the wireless router are set for the same region. Does Turkey use "Europe"? In any case, you want to use the "right one" but you really want to use the same setting for both devices.
